Simple Question. This has nothing to doing with ratings.

My Nominee is The Miracle on Ice: USA defeats the USSR in Hockey 1980.

No way an ice hockey game can be considered the greatest event….its too niche of a sport.

I’m thinking boxing. Joe Louis vs Schmeling II deserves a shout because of the political ramifications. America vs Nazi Germany, Aryan vs Black, facism vs freedom, etc

Joe Burrow dragging his dick all over Clemson in the National Championship in January of 2020. A little over a month later the world was shut down by a global pandemic and literally nothing has been the same.

the 2008 Summer Olympics has to be up there.

China put on a spectacular show for the world. Of course they did a good job of ensuring that the world did not see the dirty laundry.

-Michael Phelps and his record
-Usain Bolt
-The US gymnastics team vs the Chinese team and the drama and questionable results
-MIsty Mae and Kerry Walsh
-Nastia Liukin

Just so many great stories and in my opinion the greatest Olympic Games of my lifetime

The only problem was that it wasn’t live.

Not saying it's objectively the best, but subjectively I love the vintage visual and the play by play call of Secretariat at Belmont in 1973. The announcer just nailed it and a race is just pure athletic competition. No officials making calls, no subjective judgment, no stopping. And of course Secretariat was just a tremendous machine.

It won’t win but a worthy mention is the 07 fiesta bowl with Oklahoma/Boise state

One of the best games ever and not even Hollywood could’ve done it better

Not THE greatest, but great:

The Saints onside kick to start the second half of the Superbowl.

Damn. I couldn’t imagine having to a theater to see a silent movie of a sporting event.

It's Super Bowl XLII.

Tom Brady and the undefeated Patriots fall in wildly dramatic fashion to Eli Manning and the Giants, as Manning leads an improbable drive while looking like Forrest Gump, entirely unaffected by the weight of the situation.
