Crabgrass germinates at 55 degrees. If I’ve got a pre em down what’s that got to do with scalping?
Also I’ve got to have seeds of said on my property to germinate if my lawn was clean last year there is a good chance it’s clean this year.

Did you know that if you have poa and rescue grass scalping at this soil temp will do the same thing that weed control will?

What is the mechanism for pre-‘em? Does the average homeowner apply it at the right time? Yes mowing provides good control of early spring weeds, probably provides more benefit than the weed and feed most people use on their home lawn,

What is the mechanism? The seed germinates and the germinated weed takes in soil moisture that has the active ingredient into it and dies.
Does the average homeowner? No clue. I’m talking on the home and garden where people have already asked the question of is it time to put down a pre em. Myself and several other knowledgeable posters have already answered that question for them.

Do you mow your grass weekly in February?

I mow every other day with a reel mower. I’ll post a pic of what yard normally looks like.

Never heard of pre emergent?

Did it fill back in or did you have to dig out the top layer and add new dirt?

I just sprayed a bunch of dawn dish soap and left it. Figured drying out that patch with soap would be better than letting the gas completely kill. It grew back in after 2 weeks or so.

Question: My brother had Bermuda installed at his new house a few years ago and he has what looks like common/wild Bermuda growing in towards the back of his property which backs up to a cow pasture.
I told him his options are:
1 - Glyphosate it and re-sod that area, but he doesn’t know what type of Bermuda he has so that’s a no.
2 - Use a plant growth regulator on the common only, reduce the nitrogen, and cut low.
3 - Leave alone and let it spread since he doesn’t care that much to take care of it. I actually got him to spray pre-emergent this year for the first time lol
Just curious what you would do. I’d like to fix it for him because it looks like crap and will eventually invade his whole backyard.

I would personally round up the area because it would bother me. He could contact the builder and either find out the grass type or be out in contact with the supplier. Most builders use tif 419 though

Ronk, are you doing any lawn leveling this year?
Do you recommend a manual reel mower to start? I see some in DFW on Facebook marketplace for like $75, but they have no bag for scalping/bagging.
I was thinking trying to reel mow the front yard and potentially level it this year to see what it’s like and continue to use rotary in backyard.
Id love to observe/lend a hand to someone who knows that they’re doing when it comes to lawn leveling. Take that experience and knowledge and do my yard on my own.

I plan on it.
As for a reel mower I would suggest an earthwise 7 blade reel mower. Once your lawn is level you can get a 5lb weighted roller and start laying down stripes.
