Should be based on a percentage of the last three years of reported income from crawfish farming

I'm sure many of the conservative farmers will be too proud and principled to accept a government handout.

Farmers take more handouts than Shaquita and Shamekia. They are the ultimate welfare queens

I’ve always said if crawfish are too high to buy don’t buy them, wait for the prices to come down. The thing y’all don’t seem to understand is, if producers don’t survive this season they won’t be another season for some of them. Then they’ll be less crawfish on the market next season.

ep that’s pretty much right. Those 3 guys get together and pretty much dictate the market price.

All the more reason not to give them a bail out.

Because 3 guys dictate the market? They are doing the public a favor right now. I’m catching 20% of what I usually catch this time of the year. I agree the price is too high for the consumer but I can’t afford to lose money just so the public can enjoy cheap crawfish. What other business you know loses money so the public can have something for cheap? It’s just not a good situation all around

Don’t buy them and the demand goes down. It’s a crooked business and every year there is an issue or issues being floated around for the high prices and the “short” supply. Every year. Next year will be no different with the late Mardi Gras.

No there isn't. That's the joke here, but none of you frickers ever have a word to say when prices are down.....ever.

And when supply returns next season and they are rolling in the dough they pay it back, right?

And if there are less producers next year so be it. The fact that 3 people set the price is insane and that should be addressed. And the spillway fishermen is the one who suffers the most.
Crawfish aren’t a necessity. And if we don’t have them for the next year, we will survive.

And when prices rise due to that increased demand and diminished supply, that will incentivize producers to enter the market as there is money to be made.

That’s the natural business cycle. We’re just trying to cut it short via the nanny state big government.

Do you understand the money crawfish generates for Tourism? The state of Louisiana generates $400 million from crawfish a chunk of that coming from tourist.

It should be a free market. The 3 big “buyers” should t control the entire industry
