Just rewatched Henry Cavill's 3 Superman films (Man of Steel, Batman Vs Superman, Dawn of Justice (Schnyder cut).

One thing that always bugs me is Bat Vs Supe is a good movie, but my goodness the 'Martha' scene during the fight is just so brutally bad.

I am excited that Gunn has taken over the DCU but I would have liked to at least have gotten a little more of the Dawn of Justice Justice League (Gal, Batfleck, Henry, Jason, Ezra, Ray, Jessie) I didn't think that was a bad crew at all. Probably an unpopular opinion, but that will probably be the best cast of the Justice League that we will see. Sad it didn't make it any further.

BvS was a really good movie. The "Martha" scene backlash was a little overdone. Was it somewhat chunkily done? Yep, but not near as bad as it's been portrayed.

The action/fight scenes are the best in the superhero genre - especially the warehouse fight scene. But the set piece where we are first introduced to Batman with cops and captive Asian girls is great and really underrated. Affleck is by far the best live action Batman. We finally have a physical specimen as the Caped Crusader who looks like he can actually whip arse.

It definitely has a lot of great scenes. Affleck running towards all the destruction, the batmobile scene, etc. It kind of felt like Snyder really wanted to make a Batman film, as Superman felt sidelined to me.

I can definitely agree there was an overreaction, just every time in the moment I always think how corny it is. Like, there was nothing else you could have done there....

Completely agree about Batfleck being a top tier Batman though.

I think that losing Henry's Supe and Ben's Bat is a major loss to the DCU. They both dominated that roll. I just wish we could have gotten a movie going into more detail about the epilogue in Dawn of Justice. I could take or leave Letto's Joker honestly, but the plot looked amazing. Louis burnt to a crisp, Supe helping Darkseid, and it all being the Bats fault. Damn shame we won't ever get a movie from the teaser at the end of DoJ. Between Batflecks dreams and Barry visiting him through the Speed Force they were really setting up something cool.

Ben didn't want to be a part of it anymore. Remember that he was writing and directing a Batman film before Matt Reeves was ever brought on. He chose to drop out. Cavill, on the other hand, was completely screwed over.

I didn't know that he was writing and directing his own, but I don't keep a close eye on those things as much. That sucks because he did a really good job portraying Batman.

Cavill has gotten screwed out of two roles that he filled, in my opinion, perfectly. Between Superman and The Witcher he got the shite end of the stick. Out of Reeve, Hackman, and Routh he is by far the best that's played Superman. I haven't watched any of the TV show versions of Superman, but I can only imagine he dominates their performances as well.

Pattinson fills that role and more so than Affleck IMO

No. No it's not

It's beyond bad, but it's not why the movie is not good. It's just the worst part of a bad movie.

Patbat's movie just doesn't feel like a Superhero movie to me. It feels like more of a thriller/suspense movie. While I didn't think that his movie was bad, I wasn't the biggest fan of Patbat.

Do we know if Gunn is keeping him going forward in his rendition of the DCU?

It had some good action scenes but the movie is bad as a whole

Could have been a good concept but the execution of it all was sloppy. Trailers also removed any bit of tension by revealing the end team up of Batman, Superman and WW to fight Doomsday. Kind of dumb to name your movie Batman vs Superman but reveal in the trailer they'll be buds by the end

Reeves' movies will be separate from Gunn's. Assuming Gunn's universe doesn't fail right away, I believe he'll hold off on batman for a bit. It's pretty silly to have two different batman at the same time.

Please for the love of God do not give us another Batman movie with an origin story. I don't think I can mentally handle having to watch Martha and Thomas get shot for the millionth time followed by a slowmo of pearls bouncing off the sidewalk.

I think Gunn’s plan is to introduce an experienced Batman so he can include Damian Wayne as Robin.

Snyder is the Todd Macfarland of movies. Absolutely top notch visuals with not great stories. This movie is no exception.

His only problem is that he was given responsibility for a character that had certain expectations that were not met or even acknowledged. He did his own thing with him and it pissed people off. He was the wrong hire for head of DC. But I think his movies have value for the visuals.

Eisenberg as Luthor is main reason that movie sucked, he was absolutely awful.

Snyder’s JL cut is a bad arse movie though, sucks we won’t ever get to see that crew take on Darkseid

It honestly started with trying to go to dark with Superman in Man of Steel.

Then it got worse in trying to out the team together way too quickly in the second movie. They didn’t build a universe, which to Marvel’s credit they did. They had several standalone films with a little crossover to flesh out each character. Snyder simply tried to flesh out 4 or 5 characters in one movie and disrespected the development of Superman with it.

Now that people have these Netflix type series to really build worlds (see CW worlds too), these types of blockbuster movies trying to cram too many stories into one or two films simply doesn’t work.

TBF, it was Warner Bros that panicked after MOS disappointing box office. Snyder wanted to make a sequel to MOS.
