Saving your ace in a one game elimination is such a risky move.

You have to get there first. I would pitch him.

Acadiana is 16-19.

If your goal is to win the whole thing I would save him for the finals

And baseball is a funny game. Catholic went into Sulphur last year with exactly one loss.

I don't think they will FAFO.

I think the question is how bad is Acadiana actually? 16-19 record is awful. But do they have a solid #1 pitcher?

Never look ahead in baseball. I remember Jesuit looking ahead to their state championship matchup with Barbe in 2014, only to get beat by Live Oak in the semis. Happens all the time.

This far in the playoffs... have to assume everyone is good. Berwick still has a sub .500 record, but they're in the D3 NS semis. Survive and advance. Can't win tomorrow without surviving today.

The quality of the SP is the only thing that really matters. It's a one game season.

Some explain to me the rationale of having the Semis and Finals 1 game instead of a 3 game series?

No real good rationale. Time is the only answer

It changes next year. The season is being moved up to accomodate 3 game series.

Same in Texas. Final 4 is 1 game elimination. Every other round is best of 3

I agree with your question, but do you really think you can get a logical answer involving the LHSAA? They have 2 things in mind....Money and convenience.

Same reason everyone plays in Sulphur every year. When I played you had 3-4 different sites.

5a & 4a each had their own sites. - Denham Springs & Fair Grounds Field
3a/2a had their own: ULM
1a/B/C had their own: Louisiana College

Need to get back to that.

I never understood the decision to play the 5a title game at North Park. You'd think the top class in LA would have a more noteworthy location.

Working on an Opelousas Catholic article.

You need to give some history there.

One state title many moons ago in baseball. Program has been cursed in playoffs for a lot of the time since. Many, many competitive teams with the talent to win it have failed for some reason or another.

Recently they had an opportunity to throw their ace vs Ouachita Christian in finals due to rain delay and he was ready to go and was told he would pitch, only to have the coach throw their #2, which was quite a drop in talent

A couple years before that they had Houma Christian and Gavin Dugas down 1-0 in a 3 game series and lead 8-0 in 2nd game, only to lose the series giving up like 3 HRs to Dugas

Another year they lost the final on an E5 w 2 outs bottom of the last inning

its dumb and glad they are changing it next year

as far as catholic saving their guy....i wouldnt. got to get to the finals and a team might not have a good record but is hot at the right time. that looking ahead has cost many many teams in the past.

Has looking ahead cost teams? Of course. But how many teams have lost in the finals not having their ace? A shite ton as well

You just have to make up your mind as a coach what the ultimate goal is, and what percentage chance each option gives you.

Because back in the day 5A had a double elimination format that left teams without any pitching and no pitching limits

You had high schoolers throwing game 1 and coming back in the finals and pitching again

It was too compact of a schedule
