Is it normal for grandparents to pick their name??
I never heard of this until we had our son.
My MIL wanted to be called Geaux-Ma, which was quickly vetoed and my son calls her Grandma like a normal child.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the weird shite people ask to be called as grandparents. "Let's go see your gee-gop and dee-dee!"
Grandma and Grandpa. Mawmaw and pawpaw because we're a little bit country. Anything more than that is too far.

It's completely normal and has been for years. My parents (now in their 80s) and their friends all chose what they wanted to be called. Now back then, sometimes it was Mamaw, Papaw, Granny, etc. I'm 62 with a fairly new grandson (15 months). I don't know a single one of my friends that is called Grandma. It's just not happening.
