It’s my second favorite.

Man, I've seen plenty of people rate Gentlemen over Black Love, but how do people rate Congregation over Black Love? Black Love is like the polished, IMAX version of Congregation.

I think of it akin to Reservoir Dogs : Congregation :: Pulp Fiction : Black Love.

I like the rawer sound of Congregation... and it's probably more a point in time kinda thing... I was really into that record...

I dont even think I bought Black Love or anything after Gentleman.... I was probably just into a different sound at the time... I'm def familiar with it, because I had friends that were really into the AW and I saw them quite a few times and always enjoyed the shows.. most memorable being Thanksgiving night 1997 at the old Howlin Wolf... Kermit Ruffins opened the show and I think they played until 4am...

Your second sentence is part of the answer. Also, order of exposure. Congregation was my first time hearing AW, and I loved it (thanks 120 Minutes and “Turn On the Water”). Then, Gentlemen blew me away. Don’t get me wrong, Black Love is a great record, but it would be third on my AW list.
