because when you are lean and in a caloric surplus and lifting, the body tends to put better muscle to fat ratio on. opposite if bf% is high.

For one, in order to gain muscle you need to eat in a caloric surplus. The scale won’t go down if you are eating in a surplus so it makes it easy to get discouraged when the scale never moves. Additionally after you cut down, you can add those calories in to build muscle and not have to worry about gaining too much weight back due to an increased metabolism (reverse dieting)

Depending on what your goals are, it would be good to see what you look like lean so you know what body parts may need more attention to bring up.
