Yeah definitely agree here. I think the 4Runner would accomplish that and if that's how it's life ended (saving my kids life), I wouldn't be upset.

I do have some hesitation over buying a smaller car because of that.

Seems like the 4Runner would be a pretty safe car. My understanding is that a lot of it comes down to weight and the person with the heavier car tends to win.
No way I would put my kids in a small go cart type car with all the massive suvs around. Give them a fighting chance!
