these threads are weird to me. It's like they can't afford an EV so they have to come up with reasons to feel better about not owning one.

I think the reason you get threads like this is not necessarily a hatred of EVs. It's the mandates being proposed by the government, and the hypocrisy of EV proponents when they claim they are saving the environment.
Between tires, batteries, and generating electricity for charging, EVs are at best a net neutral vs ICE vehicles
