UAW president announces plans for general strike: "We want everybody walking out"

The action is planned for May 1, 2028, recognized around the world as May Day or International Workers' Day.

It is also the day that the UAW's recently ratified contracts with the Big Three carmakers – Ford, Stellantis, and General Motors – are set to expire.

The UAW has been encouraging other unions to organize their contract expiration dates for May 1, 2028, in the hopes of generating mass cross-industry participation.

If I am one of those companies, I go balls out on automation for the next 3 years and then fire every one of them.

Is the current NLRB considered valid?

If so, they are enjoined from doing that.

If not, I would say “frick the UAW.”

Well, considering there's already a call for a strike, I would suspect an argument regarding "good faith" could be raised.

Regardless, so long as the requirements for layoffs under the CBA are met, frick them.

I don’t think this has anything to do with a strike; it’s the UAW motto.

sounds like the union is trying the NFL version of restructuring the contract early. seeing if they scare the owners into just complying early before it comes to it.

i got a better one

If I am one of those companies, i send everyone a pink slip in the mail, and immediately hire an entire workforce from the legal illegals in this country.

its all done by computer everything now, so there are no skilled workers, its literally something a trained monkey could do except for the driving it off the line

you immediately save 30% reduction in labor costs since its not union wages, and there will be the pension and benefit savings as well

Hopefully those strikers get the same result the Gulf States Paper workers received when they struck in Tuscaloosa many years ago.

Jack Warner told them if they struck he would close the plant. They struck, he closed the plant.

That site is a Nucor mill now.

So tired of the Bullying that Unions use to get their way!

They are subsidized by the Fed Gov so they can retire in their low 50’s and then live off the tit!

Originally. The Unions served a purpose, but now they have become part of the machine!

I plan on working a double shift on that day, and not posting on TD because I'll be doing so much work.

They have no idea the leaps and bounds made in robotics and automation over the last few years. They may get a contract, but it will likely be their last.

I don't know what I'm having for dinner tonight and these aholes are planning an industry-wide strike 4 years from now?

How do you already know you're going to be aggrieved that far in the future? Ohhhhh because you're always aggrieved.

It's wild to me that someone can get paid $70k a year to stand here and do this all day.

Is she wearing a Girl Scout sash?

Obviously a high risk, highly skilled position, much training, big PPE.
