We just don't use the dishwasher anymore.

I hand wash dishes. Dishwashers seem like annoying luxuries that break to me.

had a bad fill solenoid on one late last year, fixed it for ~$20.

How did you diagnose it? That’s what I’m not 100% sure of- fill valve, solenoid, something else? I’m not REALLY handy, but I know/can figure out a few things.

This. It’s a shame how crappy the quality of today’s appliances is. All flash, very little function.

The uselessness of modern dishwashers was revealed in a thread here a few months ago. 9/10 people in that thread pretty much admitted to having to pre-wash the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. At that point, you just have a dish rinser.

Dishwasher! The biggest PITA appliance to install. Gotta be a better way to secure it than those two silly clips.

I doubt a fix is $100. I bet it's $150 to just come and look at it

That sounds more accurate

Maybe it's 100 just to look at it but that is money down the drain before any repairs

Just replace it IMO

Technically it was the fill valve but it has a solenoid to open and close the valve. I knew I had water coming into the valve but the valve wasn't opening. Everything else seemed to be working so it was unlikely it was in the electronics and also unlikely to be an electrical connection since everything looked fine. To a degree, I took a flyer that the fill valve was the issue because I was willing to take the chance on a $14.71 part (just checked my Amazon orders) and a few minutes work. It could have been something on the electrical/electronic side but research showed the fill valve was the most common issue when the washer wouldn't fill. Mine was 14 years old and not used much (at the camp) but if it had turned out to be electronic I would have just replaced it.

Mine was just water in, water out, two electrical spade connectors and a couple of screws holding the mounting bracket. A little bit of a tight fit to do it just pulled out a bit but you could always unhook it an remove it for more room. It is likely there is more than one YT video for your DW.

Most dishwashers are hard wired direct to power.

i think most people dont understand what you mean by this.

otherwise the downvotes make no sense

they must think you are saying that dishwashers come with plug in electrical cords on them

I won’t. Within a year, the wheels fell off of the bottom basket and within 2, the top aerator fell off.

Anyone not understanding must never have installed a dishwasher. If they don't get Hard Wired they probably don't need to be doing it.

A new dishwasher will wash them in about 2 hours.

And still won't get them dry.

"We have several"

"Well, here's this one in fingerprint proof stainless that will tweet out progress and you can control with your phone"

"Will it get my dishes clean?"

"Did I mention the fingerprint stainless?"

"How well does it clean?"

"It tweets"

"Does it dry as well?"

"It tweets and you can control it with your phone."

"How well does it clean/dry dishes?"

"Did I mention that it's pretty?"

My dishwasher stopped draining last night

Line from garbage disposal to dish washer is clear, motor is spinning, drain solenoid working as it should, what am I missing?? I took every piece apart and cleaned it.

When it gets to the drain cycle the solenoid fires and holds as it should but the water simply isn't flowing out. Im wildly confused now.

I'm an idiot, I upgraded our garbage disposal last week, went out of town and tried to do dishes for the first time since i returned. I forgot to punch out the plastic blocking where the drain line connects to the garbage disposal.

If $100 is all it took. That doesn’t mean there’s no other problems that are lurking or won’t show up shortly.
16 years? Can you even find parts?

This is my main reason for not calling a repair person. If I spend $250 and still have to replace in the next year, it will not have been worth it.

Now that I know I have to pull the dishwasher out to check the line for debris, I think I’m good to check that, and if that’s not it, wait and see what sales come at President’s Day. I can hand wash until then.

Delivery, Installation and Haul off are almost $300 by itself, so sales are good

Wrong and absolutely wrong. I’ve worked on more dishwashers than I can count. They are not hardwired.

My wife and I are in the same boat. We bought a new Whirlpool form Lowes about 2-3 years ago, and compared to dishwashers we owned in the past, it is very poorly made. It was way too expensive too! Both of us as kids were taught to rinse the dishes clean, before putting them in the dishwasher. So why even have a dishwasher? When this one dies we will be replacing it with a cabinet, and will just go to hand washing the dishes. There are only two of us so it takes almost a week to fill the dishwasher with enough dishes to justify running it.

Fix it. Older units were made much better than newer ones.

Bought a house and the newish Kenmore dishwasher is pouring cups of water out of the bottom. I can’t even find the name of the part or a picture of it on a diagram. Any ideas? I don’t know much about dishwashers but it looks like a plug or something should be there

Check your drai line for a clog as if it did not finish pumping all water out it will not let water in. Just happened to ours and drain was clogged in hose
