those new Springfield Armory's TRP 1911s are pretty sick, but their MSRP is $1999. your local gun store can probably get a bit cheaper as is always the case.








they also make the Prodigy which is a double stack 1911.

I do t have one yet but I’d like to get a Smith & Wesson 1911 in that price range.

I have a Springfield Champion that I love now but I had to completely rebuild it. The gun had a spring lock on it and it had one of the worst triggers I’ve ever seen on it. It was 8-10lbs. I replaced everything in the frame. It now has all STI internals and a 3lbs crisp trigger.

I had a smith. The Swartz safety system was a deal breaker for me. I had issues with the firing pin safety plunger. It made the gun inoperable. I had it fixed and sold it. Not a fan of the external extractor as well.

Love my S&W 1911 TE. Match grade barrel, beautiful wood, balanced, and a dream to shoot. Wife even shoots it well.

Shoots well and it’s a good size. Around 1000$ to 1300$ depends on where you find it.

Honestly, for your budget, I'd buy the best used pistol I could find.

I bet you can get a used Les Baer PM II in great condition for the top end of your budget.

Springfield TRPs and some Dan Wesson models. With those two, you might even be able to swing for a new one if you find the right deal.

Edit: Here's a used Les Baer PM II with a starting bid/no reserve of $1525.

All in (transfer/shipping), you might be around $1600. I have a PMII with about 20,000 rounds through it and it runs like a top. Very good pistols.

With Les Baers, you'll sometimes see what looks like big differences in price for seemingly the same pistol. Most often, the more expensive one is a 1.5" build (tighter tolerances and is more expensive).

An 1.5" @ 50y guarantee is cool if you can shoot that well (most can't), but it's in no way necessary...the lack of it doesn't mean the pistol is NOT accurate.

Most other high end builds (Wilson, etc.) are 1" @ 25y and that accuracy is a function of build quality (parts and tolerances). 1.5" @ 50y is substantial, but the guns are TIGHT. The one I have has 20k through it and it's still hard to break the action sometimes (functions perfectly though, which is amazing with it being that tight). Honestly, it's more of a pain in the arse than the accuracy is worth. A standard build not only fits your budget, but it probably a better pistol for you anyway.

I have an sti trojan - not sure if they make that model anymore, but used should be available. It’s a really good gun. Sent it to Virgil Tripp for a trigger job and it could be my favorite gun.

Anything but a kimber. Stay away from MIM parts - metal injection molding. As long as the slide to frame, and the barrel fit is tight, the other internals can be upgraded to significantly better than commercially available. For gods sake, please don’t buy one with a rail under the bottom. That’s not how JMB wanted it.
