Both Dyson and Jose are flawed, and one of them is going to be in the rotation, unless you turned one into Caruso or another attainable veteran guard. I personally am not trying to win it all this year, so I would not do a trade like this, but everyone wants to upgrade the center position so I thought it was interesting going the other direction and not without merit. Think back to the season where they turned some fringe NBA player into QPon and peak Norris Cole and instantly went from bad to mediocre. Limiting the minutes of negative players made a big difference for the team.

For the record, I and the advanced stats don't believe Dyson is a negative player. I also like your idea of just targeting Drummond much better. 3rd center is what I've been hoping they upgrade for 2 years because upgrading JV just isn't feasible but supplementing/complementing him is.

That's an awful trade that does nothing for the Pelicans.

It gives the team a premiere defensive guard as a backup rotational player that consistently shoots it well. So he is an upgrade over Alvarado and Dyson.

But I would not pay the price MM is suggesting, JV Dyson plus a first and a swap. That is far too much.

Your core players are going to play anywhere between 37-40 minutes a game in the playoffs. That doesn't even include getting Murphy on the court as much as possible. What minimal minutes left will go to the Jose/Dyson/Naji/Hawkins.

If you're trading for someone that you have to give up players and assets for, it better be for someone that will 100% be in the playoff rotation as a substantial contributor.

Yeah, it's looking increasingly certain that Cleveland is not going to trade Allen. I don't even think that Orlando is looking to trade WCJ. So, I think that we end up stuck with JV for the rest of the season.

I'm really not interested in spending much time upgrade our 3rd-string center. Cody is fine for that role.

Not saying I like this specific trade but basically imagine upgrading Dyson on offense to another 40% 3pt shooter, which is Caruso this season. He's 38% for his career.

It would be a big upgrade over Dyson, Caruso is also a better defender.

Caruso is that for minimum 3 of those players.

It's still minimal minutes at best once the playoffs hits. Not going to be substantial enough to make a move where you're giving up players and picks for. If all they're asking is Naji, sure.. great pull the trigger. But if you lose JV and picks. What's the point?

Even if we did trade for Caruso. Could we afford his next contract?

Wow comparing a 29 year old over a 20 year old.
What if Dyson becomes better?

I'd take my chance.
Adding Caruso over keeping Dyson wont take them from 1st round playoffs to a contender.

Its a question of Dyson long term development and winning now. Caruso is pretty damn good on both ends- he would make a difference in the playoffs. I’m not saying Dyson can’t improve but not sure if Pels will have the patience for it.

You are probably right they dont have the patience, but they are far from a contender with a Caruso for Dyson move.

We need to win now, I'd gladly trade a dude with potential for a dude who is ready now.

I also am not certain Dyson at his best will be as good as Caruso is now.

No way would I trade Dyson for Caruso. That would be one of the stupider things Griff has done. And we talking about a guy that gave up a good first round pick for Graham and begged Lowery to take a max deal.

Yeah, trading Dyson for a starter would be something that I would think about, but Griff isn't going to dump Dyson for a backup.

I wonder what Jazz/Ainge (and Pels/Griff) would say to a Daniels for Walker Kessler based trade. JV could be included or go out to a 3rd team.

This. We scored over 150 points last game- Dyson was the only player on the team with 0. We need to have a serious discussion on what type of player especially offensively Dyson will develop into. Yes, hes 20 and very talented on the defensive end- but I'm not sure Dyson will ever meet what some posters expect him to become. I mean we're sitting here saying no way we can trade Dyson for a backup; hate to burst peoples bubbles but Dyson is also a backup.

I'm sure the Dyson stans will downvote this to oblivion lol
