Yeah, i just spent 20 minutes prepping the truck like I do when we go to idaho.

Door seals, handles, locks, mirrors, headlights, and windshield sprayed with silicone.

Drained the +32 degree fluid for the windshield and filled with -20 and a bottle of 90% alcohol.

Tossed the winter kit in the truck with the ice scrapers, tow straps, can of wd40 and gloves

Overkill, but the kiddo and I will be picking the wife up at 3 am when the roads are likely at their worst. Few years ago I was the last vehicle who got to cross the I10 bridge. Let's hope that isn't the case again.

Anyone else have a female in their family that always finds a way to make the dumbest decision possible at the worst possible time when it comes to driving in inclement weather?

Just a FYI, salt doesn’t work below 15 degrees.

That's correct. It's barely effective when it's well below freezing.

Freezing rain/ice is the absolute worst. I’ll take a foot of snow over that shite.

Also correct. It's awful. We get so many freezing rain events in eastern Canada, especially early and late in the winter season.

Y’all are slacking with the pics. Weather channel app says Oxford has 13” with 3” more to fall. Is it more like half that?

Oxford has about 5” so far

Expect to hear the term,"Black Ice". Repeated about 50 times on every weather report or local TV report.

It's 10:30 am and I am already wanting everyone out of the house. I'm not going to make it.

That has a negative connotation. They're going to start using the term "White shite is bad".

What do you mean by New Orleans? Entire metro?

No one will be able to give you a real answer until tomorrow morning.

How cold will it get? How much rain? What's the timing?

Some roads/bridges may have an issue. That's really the best anyone can give you.

Or my wife not 10 minutes ago:

Goodyear in Metairie is selling studded snow tires this morning but it’s first come first serve.

Yeah it’s the worst and (fingers crossed) it looks like we are dodging a big ice storm bullet. Three years ago was beautiful yet damaging too, but that happened mid February, so who knows? It was the first time in my not inconsiderable years that I’ve ever see below zero F temps.

Sometimes the highway department trucks will spread sand over the bridges, IDK if it’s mixed with salt. Too much of a Deep South person to know the ins and outs of de-icing. Where I live we get nothing on highways, town streets or parish roads anyway.

Louisiana got salt trucks? When?

Seriously?

They mix water and salt to create a brine solution to spray bridges and overpasses with and they aren't doing it with Miatas. This has gone on for decades.

Some snow showing up on Houston’s radar near Baytown. Any ground reports? Thought upper air dynamics were too warm
