best case scenario raymond is energized to be back at his alma mater after learning the grass isnt always greener and re-establishes DBU.

This is my thinking

I am agnostic on Raymond as an on-field coach, because I know I don't have nearly enough information to have an intelligent take. Like I'm sure 99.99% of people on here--despite this thread being 6 pages worth of opinions--who haven't seen him work day-to-day and, even if we did, would have no real baseline or reference to compare him to.

That said, I've got Cowherd on in the background, and in his hot-taking on Harbaugh at Michigan, actually said something that stood out to me. (Paraphrasing) "Michigan used the same strategy last night/this year that Georiga used, and LSU, and Bama, and USC before them. They had the best players." And we simply have not had the best players on defense the last several years, specifically at DB and DL. If there was a consensus "best" technical DB coach in the country and we had him on staff the past 2 years, given the same players, I don't know if he makes a significant difference, if any at all.

We've got to have better players on defense to compete. If Raymond is the hire, it's likely MUCH more to do with BK and Frank's vision and plan to recruit and land better players than his on-field coaching abilities (assuming he's at least competent, which I think he's proven). I think whoever winds up getting the DL coaching job will also be a part of that vision/plan. And it's going to be a lot easier to recruit guys to play in Baker's system in Kelly's program than it was to recruit to Bo Pelini's/Daronte Jones' and Ed Orgeron's.

Well as soon as announcement is made LSU will get a commitment from the #1 DB in La Class of 2025 from NI. So there...

So why wasn’t Florida in his top schools?

I’m with you on Raymond. I’m agnostic.

On to the Cowherd bit…

Gotta disagree. If you go by recruiting rankings, Michigan doesn’t compete with the usual suspects. So, is it development? If so, it goes back to the coaching staff.

Having great talent makes coaching easier. My team went undefeated one year because we had kids that were better than everyone. They all moved on the next year and the next team I had sucked. People thought I was this awesome coach the before.

Joe Brady looked great at LSU and not so much in Carolina. Talent was different. I’d say the same about Bo Pelini too. Having top DL and secondary makes your defense a difference maker and we aren’t recruiting the best talent anymore.

Welp, 230 pm and no indication of a press conference. I’ve been refreshing the board every five minutes.

Chicken’s source must have been DALSU coming out of retirement.

I bet they’re waiting to announce the entire new staff at once rather than piecemeal.

Maybe Raymond got lazy in his last year or so at LSU and maybe Florida job woke him up! All I’m saying is he did some great things in his years at LSU and he can recruit so I’m all on board!

He had the #1 safety committed. He was pissed when heard he was let go. He might have been the reason for Mack too

At least we aren’t buying out a contract to get Raymond.
