3 outlets on the same circuit stopped working. A 4th outlet in the same circuit still working. The 3 that aren’t working show 50v. I’ve looked for a loose neutral and checked all the breakers. Totally stumped.

Any ideas?

Could be bad connections behind the breaker panel face. Turn everything off. Take off the face and tighten all screws. They can loosen over time.

To me it sounds like a loose wire or bad connection at the outlet.

Check the outlet that still has 120v.
I am assuming that the “good outlet “ still has 120v.

The 3 outlets with 50v could be after the loose connection on the first outlet.

Are you sure it’s 50V and not your meter reading 50mV?

If it is 50V, make sure one leg of your entire panel didn’t drop voltage.

How is the circuit running? Good outlet is 1, then 2, 3, and 4 with the final 3 bad? Or the opposite? There could be something like a light switch or junction box in the middle, and that’s where your loose connection is located?

Also, do you have a gfi somewhere? Gfi tripped kills everything down circuit of the gfi but up the circuit works.

I have outdoor outlets on otherwise random circuits because they are on the same wall.

I am assuming those four outlets are the only 4 on the circuit. Is so, the first outlet that is working is probably where the bad connection is. If you follow the wires back from the working outlet, you will probably find one goes to the breaker box and one goes to a non working outlet. Turn off the outlet ans check the wires going out to the next outlet. I think you are on the right track looking at the neutral.

A quick test is to check the voltage to ground. This should be the same as voltage to neutral. if it is 120 to ground but something else to neutral (like 50) hen the issue is with the neutral.

Could be a loose or broken wire, but check for corrosion or carbon as well.

Just my thoughts on what is probably going on.

Thank you guys very much for your help. I finally just decided to call an electrician. He’ll be coming out on Wednesday. I’ll share results on here. Again, thank you.

I would start by pulling out the receptacle that works and verify that there are no loose connections in there. It sounds like the receptacle that works is the first one in the circuit by the way you described it
