I have 2 massive blue jays that come around in the mornings.
we had a hawk try and take a Mourning dove the other day, and about 8 crows attacked it - was awesome to watch.

Palm Warbler showed up around the feeder yesterday. Haven't seen one before.

I have 2 big bluejays right now also. They actually seem to be more tame than others and dont bully all the other birds.
One of the hawks dive bombed a pile of birds the other day but came up empty. I did see the remnants of a dove in the yard yesterday though. Last thing I saw the hawk pull from the feeder area was a 3 foot snake.
Feeders attract all sorts of stuff it seems

Had several rose breasted grosbeaks visit last year mid April-early May.
None this year.

Around the first of April, the young American elm in my back yard was breaking bud or flowering, I bet there were 15-20 (I think) hooded warblers messing around in the tree. Pretty cool.

Along with feeders, a birdbath or two in your yard will draw in the birds. The birdies have to have water too. We have to fill ours up a couple of times a day.

Right on time, I am seeing a passing Rose-breasted Grosbeak. They rarely stay more than a few days. last year was the longest I have seen at 2 weeks.
Not at the feeder, but I have had a yellow warbler and several common yellowthroats along the bayou in the back yard.

Grosbeaks are really beautiful birds. My backyard 3-4 years ago. They(a pair) hung around for a couple of weeks. Haven’t had any stop by since.

Jimmy Durante-esque schnozola there.

We have chipmunks and squirrels picking up what falls from the feeders and we have had a snake and a racoon at night also. The hawk sits nearby but we have not seen him actually catch anything but I imagine he is snacking on chipmunks.
The birds do not care about kitty being outside on the deck but he keeps the chipmunks and squirrels away when he is out.

What I find strange is, they do not stop back by in the Fall. Have never seen on then even though I have had at least one every Spring for the last 5 years.

Have a mated pair of bald eagles that live on my ranch, they’ve been here ~10 years and never leave. They nest together in a pine next to the primary lake, which they fish out of daily. Pretty cool to be able to to watch them fish together on a daily basis. Also have a few roadrunners and cranes anchored here permanently as well

Heath's Almond Woodpecker suet is a favorite in our yard. We get it from Amazon a couple of dozen at a time.

One of my squirrels is the main culprit of the feed being on the ground. He is messier than any bird I have ever seen.

I usually have 2 to 3 racoons a night. I have snakes all over. All good ones though to my knowledge.

We used to have a flock of common flickers show up once a year and eat all the berries off the tallow trees, then disappear for another year.
