I agree. It as nothing to do with being “woke”. It’s just too much going on.

Ask the question.

Why is this season weak?

My answer…it can’t figure out what it wants to be. It’s trying to be a lot of things and sucks at all of them.

At first Navarro was getting on my nerves and I didn’t care for her much. But her and Danvers don’t really bother me much anymore except for the ridiculous and unexplained behavior she has with her stepdaughter, or whatever she is.

True Detective Horror Story: Alaska

Am I the only person in this thread that actually likes this season? I think it is definitely different than the others but have enjoyed the mystery and characters thus far. The supernatural aspect was a little unexpected but i dont hate it so far. Definitely interested to see what the next episodes have in store before i make a total judgement of it.

I'm enjoying it. It isn't as good as Season 1 but it's better than most garbage on TV right now. I love a mystery. I think some people bitch about it out of pure pleasure.

I don't mind the characters, but like others have said, there are too many damn storylines going on.

My biggest gripe is taking it into the paranormal world, followed by tying it in with season 1 while doing so. Sure, you want to go a different route, you do you. But don't associate Season 1 with that bullshite.

I just don’t know how you can say this is good. It’s a very rough watch

I think it’s all misdirection and it will turn out they are all hallucinating from whatever is causing the stillborn births. Navarro is in concussion protocol after busting her head after she slipped chasing after Foster’s dead son. Rose just got so stoned she forgot about the bodies or she is the one that killed them. She is my prime suspect.

I can't say that I think that it is "good" but my gf and I are enjoying it enough to keep watching it. We want to see what happens. I thought that the scene with Navarro and Danvers in the car talking it out after Navarro finds out that Hank hid a good lead from here was by far the best scene including them two so far.

but there is a lot of dumb shite going on, like putting those bodies in the hockey rink with zero safety/contamination measures, and the young cop calling his vet cousin to look at the bodies because a goddamn' medical examiner hasn't even laid eyes on them. These weren't a bunch of street bums that died from exposure or OD, these were really smart scientists working on complex research that were apparently murdered, and the only unit working on the case is the small, local, podunk police department?? and I'd be absolutely furious if I lived in a place that is frigid and dark for 2 months, and I was denied ice-skating during that time because cops turned the rink into a fricking "crime lab."

I was thinking that they will explain away the exorcism scene as a hallucination. But either way, its too late, too much crap going on.

Wonder how many would watch if it was advertised as a limited series called Night Country without the True Detective title attached.

I mean I probably would still watch because there isn't anything else running that's worth a shite. Really the only appt. tv left outside of sports.

Like I said, the tie in of this cluster to the greatness of Season 1 is what pisses me off.

It's all gonna depend on how the mystery is wrapped up. This is a perfectly good series if the finale makes sense. If it ends stupid, the rest of it can't stand on it's own (unlike season 1).

Enjoying the season. A lot going on.

Quick question...outside of the events falling in line with the start of winter solstice, any significance with the holidays? The story could have taken place at any time during the months without sun.

Isn’t this the Beatles song Danvers had a fit about and turned off when she arrived at the lab?

Yes. As someone speculated, her overreation to the song in the first episode would likely be explained later and had a reason. It was and it did.
