Mere normal statistical fluctuations
Emphasize the 2 parent family values in your community and the numbers will drop drastically

Giving people a greater degree in self-defense lowers homicide rates? You don't say...
quote:
The largest and most comprehensive survey of American gun owners ever conducted suggests that they use firearms in self-defense about 1.7 million times a year. It also confirms that AR-15-style rifles and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, frequent targets of gun control legislation, are in common use for lawful purposes, which the Supreme Court has said is the test for arms covered by the Second Amendment.
quote:
Thirty-one percent of the gun owners said they had used a firearm to defend themselves or their property, often on multiple occasions. As in previous research, the vast majority of such incidents (82 percent) did not involve firing a gun, let alone injuring or killing an attacker. In more than four-fifths of the cases, respondents reported that brandishing or mentioning a firearm was enough to eliminate the threat.

Graduated high school with that dude. Never pictured him as a policeman much less a police chief for the City of Bham. Honestly, I'm surprised he hasn't been replaced for DEI purposes.

Fewer people are being murdered in 2023 because they were already murdered in 2022.

BHM mayor is a leftist but he’s a practical leftist. There’s plenty of DEI going on in the city but some departments have to actually function properly- police being one of them.

Tell that to New Orleans.

There’s a couple. But BHM Is largely safe if you just don’t do stupid things. Read into that what you will.

Is 143 down to 135 really a major shift?

Truth.
Ive lived here for more than 20 years and never felt unsafe, even when in less than desirable areas. I think that criminals tend to prey on other criminals so if you aren't up to anything then you are fine. Also, the cops in the suburbs do a pretty good job of keeping out the riff-raff and the riff-raff know not to pull any shite in Vestavia, Mt Brook, ect.

Nowhere to go but down. The people who haven’t been killed yet are hiding.

Wonder if there is a correlation to the number of drug overdose fatalities in the previous year.

This is just like the vote. It is not how everyone votes, it how the people in charge count the votes.

Baton Rouge is still beating them per capita, right?

I feel safe in pretty much any part of BHM except Ensley. Won’t catch me out there if at all possible. Avoid west end at night and don’t go searching for a drug deal and you’re 98% of the way there. Only thing left is random shite that can happen anywhere.
But the suburban Karens will have you believing there’s child prostitution rings being run out of Vestavia hotels. Crazy arse bitches.
