The 280 AI is simply a 280 Rem loaded to its potential. Hornady and others used to sell "bolt action only" 280 Remington loads that were loaded like they should have been from the start. They pushed 140 grain lead core bullets at 3100 fps.

Remington has shite the bed on almost every cartridge they came out with. The 6mm Remington is another example. The populous chose a rifle originally intended for varmints, 243 Win, over it. I have seen way more passthroughs with a 6mm Rem than a 243. I am glad the 6.5 CM is replacing the 243 as gun shy cartridge, but the 260 was supposed to do that and Remingtion failed.
