That simply means you are forgiven through faith in Jesus Christ as your savior, not through a priest.

Also the explanation of my verse that says no one goes to the father but through me, hence your faith in Christ is your salvation from sin. Again, no man has this authority. This is stated plainly in the bible.

Except the part where Jesus explicitly gave his apostles (the church's first bishops & priests) the ability to forgive sins

That's not at all what that verse means. Read the entire chapter of John 14 without stopping. All Jesus is saying is that to know Jesus is to know God.
