He could "evaluate his role" by competing in bowl practices and the bowl game, and getting better as a player.
I don't know what further conversations they can have with him except "you're not one of our top two tackles right now, but you certainly have the opportunity to compete for the jobs and get playing time. And you could eventually become a starter if one or both move on to the NFL."

He starting next year somewhere on that line regardless. It’s not about playing time.
