I agree.

The past couple of years have just felt different. It doesn't have the same appeal anymore. NIL + free transfers = dumbest fricking combo of rule changes in the history of the sport. Then you have the on-field garbage changes that are pussifying the game. And then you have the commercialization of stadiums and erosion of traditions.

It's all gone to shite. I'm just glad we got 2019 LSU before the death of the sport.

ETA:

12 team playoff could be fun though if they'd get their heads out of their asses and play some home games on campuses. Probably too many teams though.

8 would be perfect. Let the BCS pick them. 4 homes games on campuses on NYE/NYD, then rotating spots for semis and finals just like they do for 4 team playoff now. A home college playoff game would be electric.

Up until this year, I have been a much bigger CFB fan than NFL fan. Ever since I was a child, Saturdays started with Gameday and watching CFB was a priority. I enjoyed the NFL too, but it was never a “must watch” until deep into the playoffs.

CFB has been decimated by top heaviness, free agency, and the prioritization of money over traditions and love of the game. What made CFB special is gone. Now it’s just a really shitty version of the NFL. With that being the case, I’d much rather just watch the NFL.

RIP CFB.

I think this is most people's history and current sentiment.

And why is Oregon...1 sniff away from a playoff spot playing frickin' Liberty?

All the matchups suck...like most years...CFB postseason has become an abomination.

And we will most likely get a rematch in the supposed title game. not this shite again. Bama loves winning titles after do-overs.

Oh...

And half of Oregon's team has opted out of the Fiesta and about 10 are hitting the portal. Swan song for CFB. Nobody cares anymore, especially the players.

yep. and this comes from a state fan, alumni and donor: suckage is no stranger to me.

that said, I just don't really care anymore. not that anyone will care when I completely check out in what looks to be any season now, but when it's inevitably a few million of me at the 99 percenter schools, somebody will care.

college football is not exempt from the laws of the universe, e.g., equal and opposite reactions, nor is it exempt from proven, sanctified idioms like, "the more things change, the more they stay the same." meaning, they can change it all they want because of money signs clouding their view, but things will revert back when people stop watching, and people will stop watching.

this model is not sustainable, because it's not attractive to the majority; hence why are we even having these conversations every day? everyone knows this current model is unmitigated bullshite.

there will be a pendulum swing.

I don't like some of the changes either. But it's still much more enjoyable to me than NFL.

actually, the NFL isn't really winning as far as the product on the field.

I'm thinking that kids these days are becoming harder to coach especially at the college level now because of NIL and the portal. There are more players who aren't learning to work through adversity as much. If they aren't happy then they are free to go. Rather than stick it out and get more out of the coaching and learn how to stay committed to a team/goal(s).

I'm not saying this applies to all of the players you just see it more.

then once you get to the Pros, they have a collective bargaining agreement that limits what you can do at the facility during the off season with coaches and also during the season. Especially at practices.

I mean football is all I still really watch, and I think that both CFB and the NFL have been nothing to write home about this season.

This is going to result in a brain drain in the college coaching ranks over the next 5 years. Between these entitled sacks of shite as well as the insane schedule, I forsee a LOT of college coaches saying frick it and retiring or moving on to the NFL.

Not for long. The expanded playoff will water down the regular season games.

The SEC NY6 matchup (Sugar Bowl) for our runner-up has always sucked. Except maybe Bama/Oklahoma, that was a solid matchup.

List of those blue bloods we were matched up with-
Kansas St
Baylor x2
Cincinnati
Utah
Hawaii
Va Tech

Big yawners

Maybe that will save it as more teams have hope
I don't think so.

I'm old enough to remember when teams weren't playing to win a national title, they were playing for bowl bids.
SEC= you wanted to get the Sugar, and just getting in was great. If you won, fricking awesome.

Rose Bowl was a big deal, Big 10 vs Pac 10. Michigan USC, or some variation thereof.

Oklahoma or Nebraska in the Orange. Texas or Arkansas in the Cotton.

Then there were the in-season matchups; OU/Nebraska. Ohio State/Michigan. Tenn/Bama, UGA-Fla etc. Penn State-Pitt. USC/UCLA.
Most teams had a rival, that was always a fun time.

All that is lost. Nobody at LSU cares about Ole Miss anymore, they don't care about making a bowl. Beating Bama is nice, but if you don't make the playoffs it's just ok. Making the playoffs and losing is almost worse than not making it.

The excitement college football brought me in the 80's is gone, it's a different animal now.

Vegas needs to release a point spread for all possible matchups in a NY6 bowl...before bids are chosen.

I think Oregon is a 20 point favorite in the Fiesta. No major bowl should have that ridiculous spread...as if you're just playing some early season game or an SEC November.
