A.T., my kid loves playing with toy cars and trucks so I looked at your Ebay listings and see a couple of Hot Wheels items.

That got me to searching Ebay for any Hot Wheels toys and there are hundreds of different models.

I'm not questioning why yours are listed for $20-$50 and there are Hot Wheels listed by other people for less than $5 but what makes Hot Wheels vary in price so much? I know there is a good reason for it. I have zero knowledge of Hot Wheels so please forgive my stupid question. Thanks.

I recently acquired a box of about 100 or so vinyl records my great grandmother had from the 50s to early 70s. All in great shape

I’m researching each one to see if any are worth significant value. So far most sell anywhere from 5 dollars to 30. One with JFKs speeches has sold for couple hundred before.

Anyways I’d like to find someone to just buy the whole thing off me, only a couple I want to keep because most of it isn’t music I like. If interested email me at deltaland7204@gmail.com

Are you talking about old HW cars like mine, or modern ones?

The old ones vary in price by color, color of interior, and other variants.

The light blue Mustang I sold for $350, sells for $50 in the regular blue.
The regular blue can sell for $500 if the rear window is louvered.

And of course condition. The ones I found were in pretty nice condition, not mint, but better than average.

The light blue Mustang sells for $2000+ in loose, mint condition, probably $5000 mint in original package.

I just sold the last pair of Allen Edmonds for $60, to the same guy that bought the other four pair.

~$120 spent
$262 sold

I thought I’d do much better and probably would have if I waited, but I don’t do that.

Always enjoy these posts. How detailed of a spreadsheet do you keep for purchases (list one line by the estate sale purchase lot or categorize each item)? Was wondering your percentage of “hits” vs misses.

Maybe the purchaser of that jersey was the biological result of that union?

Kinda makes you think….

I just keep track of what I spent at each sale, not per item. Most garage sales, and all estate sales, now take Venmo, making it very easy.

As far as hits vs misses

I do miss a lot, but it pennies. I couldn’t tell you how many items I’ve bought for under $5 that were a miss, but just like I said above, I judge hits and misses by the sales.

I may drop $50-$100 at a sale, buying a dozen items I think are cool (or I know are valuable). Of the dozen items, five are misses, but the other seven items sell for $500+ total. The sell was a hit.

I RARELY have a miss from a sell.

I’ve said it for years, I could easily go out every Friday and Saturday and profit $100+ a day, but I don’t do this for the money, I do it for the hunt.

As of right now, I just got into the black on the sell the shoes and jeans came from. I spent $200 at the sell, and sold all the shoes and 3 pairs of jeans for $290. I still have 8 pairs of jeans and other items that will sell, but will take time.

You just made me feel like an idiot. I have no idea what I'm looking at when it comes to Hot Wheels. They all look the same to me.

Several of the cheap ones on eBay are still in their original packaging and I don't know if those are "old" or new.

I guess a kid won't know the difference either. He'll just play on the floor with them and be in heaven.

Thanks.

Big difference. Hot Wheels started in 1968 with 16 cars (in various colors). It grew from there. Up until 1974, the wheels had thin red circles on them. They are called redlines. From 74-mid 80’s (or maybe even later), the tires were just black, they are called blackwalls, and they are now coming very collectible.
If you just want some HWs for the kids, search hot wheels lot, and you can find a box load of loose, modern HW’s cheap
