But they put in about 65 hours per week during the school year, at least my wife does. I know a lot of teachers through her and they all put in the hours.

You're an absolute trooper. Was there a certain year you saw things turning bad? Seems like students and parents have lost their minds lately.

Yep, to make money for those months you can teach summer camp with a bunch of wild arse kids with less rules and consequences than regular school. A waiter at my golf club is an elementary teacher and busts his arse with stupid hours. I’m not sure why people don’t think that shite through when they’re declaring a major.

I can’t really point to a certain year. There are variables from district to district that also come into play. Like I mentioned, though, things are barely recognizable since we returned from the COVID lockdowns.

200k. Full retirement at 55. 90% Caucasian school in a small town. Those would be my demands

I was one until recently.
I worked a lot to gross 60k (coach and other stipends)

I'd go back for 85k without the coaching.

Teachers working 13 hour days? We talking coaches? Maybe during the season.

A geography teacher? An elementary school teacher? Pffft.

Unlimited pardons from the Governor, sponsored by a taser company, open Valium script, infinite CCW, 175K, and have a casting couch to interview the new female teachers. Damn I wish I was 15 in Avoyelles

About 50k. Which is what they make now. Take their 180 days of work at only 6 hours, and it comes out to around $36 an hour.

Pretty damn good to have every federal holiday, 3 months off for summer, and the best retirement in the state and free insurance. Better than about 80% of the jobs this state offers.

I hope this is a joke. Knowing this board fairly well, it’s not.

First grade teacher. She is at school working from 7:30am until 5pm and then grades papers, etc for about 2 hours a night. So my math was wrong, only 57.5 hours per week. She also has to do 30-40 hrs of training seminars per year and various other BS the state (Texas) requires. Most people don't realize all the extra training/continuing education they are required to complete every year.

Teaching is an honorable, noble profession in my view, and teachers should be compensated accordingly...

Unfortunately, teaching at a public school today could be considered a personal health risk with a mind to the general decay in civil society we all see happening around us...

In other words, you couldn't pay me enough to do it.

I'm a teacher/coach in a MS public school. I've been doing this shite for almost 29 years. I'm done after next year. I'll be 52 at the end of next school year. I'll get full retirement, but I'll have to find something to do until I'm 60 or so. I'll shovel shite 12 hours a day to not have to do this anymore. Since Covid it's been pure hell. Kids want everything given to them and don't want to do a damn thing. If they fail, repeat they sit there and don't do a damn thing, you have to fill out all of this paperwork, call parents, etc. In other words you get punished for them not doing a damn thing. I teach a state tested class and have for 7 years. It sucks. Coaching has gotten just as bad. Entitled players who don't want to work hard. My average day during football is:
Monday-
Teach until 11:30
Middle school baseball 12-1:10
High School football 1:20-6
JV Football game ends around 9 get home at 11
Tuesday
Same as Monday but no JV get home around 7:30
Wednesday
Same but if home game paint field get home at 7
Thursday
Same but walkthrough actually get home at 4, but have to cut grass
Friday
Same but Varsity game. Home game get home around 12:30-1 in the morning, road game anywhere from 1:30 to as late as 3;30 in the morning
Saturday-cut grass or go to State football game
Sunday
Church from 10-11:45
Football meetings from 1-6 or later get home anywhere from 7-9:30
In the spring I just do middle school baseball, so it's not as bad but we play two nights a week for 7 weeks.

Yeah, I know it was a rant and I chose this career, but it's time for me to hang it up. I'm done. Almost 30 years. I've spent my whole life in school. I need to find something else to do.

ETA: Summers off my arse. I've never had one summer off. We practice football and baseball everday. 7 on 7, summer baseball games, etc
You also have to drive the bus on all road trips some as far as 2 to 2.5 hours

Spot on. I’ll add dealing with ridiculous parents to that misery.

No doubt. "My baby would never do that". "My baby say he do all his work". So on and so on

I work from 6:45 to 2:45 (really 6:20 to 3:10)... Not sure where you get 6 hours. We get two months off during the summer, not three. We also do not get paid for that time.

After 17 years, I make 54k. I've always taught at inner city schools.
