Ehh, not entirely true. All in the Family was based off of a British show called Til Death Us Do Part.

Still a great show and character.

Also, look into the origin of Three’s Company.

Sanford and Son was based off of Steptoe and Son.

It’s astounding how many American shows were based off of British ones.

Lear claimed he conceived AITF independently but then learned of TDUDP's existence, & bought the rights to cover himself legally.

FWIW, AITF (early seasons at least) is a much better show show than TDUDP.
