NCAAF playoff system NEEDS to seed a number of teams that is a multiple of 4

Think about it. Any number not a multiple of 4 is going to produce seeds given a bye.
One reason given for the “new” 12 team playoff is eliminate the snafu’s like an undefeated team not making it to the championship series.
But, as stated above 4 teams get a bye. Suppose in Round 1 Team A beats Team B. Then in Round 2 Team A plays Team C who happened to have a bye in Round 1. Team A loses to Team C. Now Team A is going to claim they were robbed because Team C had an extra week to rest, heal, prepare, etc….
So instead of getting rid of controversy the “new” system replaces one source of controversy with another.
Why not mimic the “proven” formula of March Madness, but with 16 teams instead of 12? The playoffs will still be played over the same number of weeks so having to extend the season is no more an issue with a 16 team field than with one of 12.
With sixteen teams, 4 more teams get to compete. Is that such a bad thing?
Seems like a reasonable and doable solution. But, nonetheless leave it to the powers that be to bypass an easy solution and go from one crappy system to another.

12 is a multiple of 4 since 12 is divisible by 4.
but I get what you mean.

One reason to like the 12-team playoff is the top four teams are rewarded a bye ‘week’… NFL and MLB reward the best teams with a bye

It may be a small controversy when the seeding is announced, but the “we didnt get a bye” argument is alot weaker then the “we didnt get in” argument. I wouldnt feel bad for florida st if they got in but had to play in round 1, at least you get a fricking chance to earn it on the field.
Nfl does byes, does anyone complain about playing wildcard weekend? Think you know that answer.
Plus, what are you playing for as a 2 seed the last week of the regular season in that scenario, not much difference in the 2 seed and the 6 seed, frick that

Yea and FSU would have been triggered that they didn’t get a bye, and then got beat by the group of five 12 seed.

12 is already too many. How about top ten.

FCS has done 16 teams for years. IDK why FBS hasn’t followed suit.

We don’t need 12. Maybe 8 but realistically 6

I can see your logic. I would go so far as saying that having 4 major conferences, now that the Pac 12 is dead, will help. Having 5 conferences and squeezing 5 into 4 is what has NEVER made sense. Someone always gets left out and controversy ensues.

Subtle way of saying you don’t get math.

12 is way too many… hell, I think back to years when you could hardly pick 2. The best solution to me is power 5 champs have to get in. Why have a championship game if the winner doesn’t go? 3 loss West team beats undefeated east team? So be it. SEC champs and they are in.
With the pac 12 situation now though what the hell is power 5 anymore? Regardless, champs of major conferences simply HAVE to get in. They won it on the field.
5 teams (won on field black and white) plus 3 at large beauty contests (gray area) .. this is what the first year in 25 years that you could argue past 4 teams? A one off.
8 is PLENTY.

It'll be 16 in a few years.

the expansion rules state that only conference champions get a bye. Pac-12 is gone so there are only 4 major conferences. Only complaints can come from conference championship losers who make the playoff, but we know why they don't get a bye. Win your conference, get a bye it's that simple.

The bottomline is no matter what you do, there will be someone complaining..... no matter the situation, someone will complain they are getting cheated.

You couldn't possibly be more wrong, and I understand it's an opinion so it technically can't be wrong.
However, YOU HAVE GOT to keep the regular season as important as possible. Having teams strive to be in the top 4 to receive a bye does that.
The higher seeded team should host the playoff game in each round until we get to a final "super bowl" type game played at a predetermined site.
No way in hell does LSU want to have to go to ann arbor to play a playoff game. That's why we would strive to be as high as possible to avoid scenarios like that.
