What do you pay? I should have clarified I was speaking of $100k plus average.(someone leaving a decent dealership should be making this) Not a gig where most make $40k-50k and one rockstar hits $90k.

Go hire on with an electrician or a/c guy and learn the trade. Someday you, after you are fully licensed and capable, you can have a very profitable business of your own.

I left Car Sales back in 2007. Started out as a Territory Manager that serviced Restaurants and Hotels. Bounced around until I found my niche. Currently I’m a Product Support Sales Rep for a Material Handling Co for the last 6 years. Good luck.

Highest paid car salesmen usually work at...Toyota Dealerships.

You should get out bc convincing poor people to buy a $60k ford truck seems like a wasted life.

Woah woah woah. Slow down. Ain’t nobody selling a $60k car to a poor person. They are selling a $800 a month payment for 72 months (I didn’t do the math).

Toyota's don't have any mark up. So when they would sell at full sticker (with a $5,000 non negotiable fee on top)

Spoken like a true car salesman..."no markup" but there is a "$5,000 non negotiable fee on top"...fricking scumbags

Are you very efficient with tech?

I may be able to point you to do software sales if you're able to do a demo.

That's the range I'm talking about. You can't hardly even get a motivated kid straight out of school to be an aggressive salesman for $40-50k. I'm hiring guys with 5-10 year track records who have the potential to make $250-300k .

Man, I hate that, not my experience here in Alabama. Everywhere I cover has a shortage of CT and MRI techs.

Been in the business for 4 years now. Lots of ups and downs from Covid and the surplus of big time commission, but now that well has all dried up with the economy/inflation and it’s hard to have consistent pay. Obviously that is the nature of the beast when it comes to sales, but with car sales it is a commitment of basically living at the dealership for hours on end. As a single guy that was never even an issue. But with money slowing down and being in a relationship and looking to start a family down the line, I can’t justify the hours versus pay, nor do I see it as sustainable.

Any advice on what career path to move forward with after escaping the clutches of the car business?

PS: Yeah I know, car salesman. I’m a scumbag I get it. Go ahead take your shots, nothing personal lol.

Hell the con game is booming....you ought to fit right in with any number of similar legal cons like selling insurance, real estate, pharmaceuticals, time shares...If you have done 4 years of car sales you have proven to be of questionable morality...there is a pile of folks who would appreciate your lack of integrity.

Just kidding. I would think if you have a reasonable level of verifiable success selling cars you can find a job selling something somewhere....a person who can get folks to buy a car can get folks to buy just about anything....

Find a more stable and upwardly mobile sales job. Assuming you’ve done well (which if you’ve been doing it for four years and haven’t gotten fired I’m sure you have) the experience should be attractive to people looking to hire a sales rep in a much different field. Car sales is brutal and a good track record there should be impressive. Pick some fields you’re interested in/have good options wherever you live and I don’t think you’ll have much of an issue finding something

How many cars do you have to sell a year to even make $75k a year?

50-60 cars?

Ignorance is truly bliss. Depends on what you're selling but, 10-12 per month is more like the correct answer assuming you're at a decent dealership.

All bullshite aside, I get it. In 2022 my average front was 4257 and in 2023 its 3836 but my total sales were 127 in 2022 and in 2023 its pacing 139. Ups and downs are what makes this industry. You have to get ahead of the curve to stay profitable. For example. My front average is down this year but my dealership has old unit contest every month which pays cash on the hood up to 1000 a unit. When that list comes out I start calling every customer that couldn't get financed because the loan to value is usually pretty good and it helps them get approved. I also call friends and family because those are usually great deals.

If you sell 50 cars with an average front of 2500 you make a whooping 31250 a year
