This correct, and as you said, a big reason why manufacturers jumped on the EV bandwagon so hard.

But losing $30K per vehicle isn't sustainable for legacy manufacturers, and it's really tough on startups ( Rivian).

It's tough but it's possible and quite profitable if you do it the right way.

Remember in 2008 when the CEO's of the major car manufactures rolled to Capitol Hill to beg for bailouts in private jets? There's reasons why they can't survive getting into the market - because they're already too big to survive without subsidies.
