Get ready to bail out Ford again.

I see it at 2 levels. Front end - bail out to any (Frd, GM, Chrys) manufacturer.
Back end - get rid of ICE to try and generate EV sales through "cash for clunkers" or some variation. A lot of short-sighted people were suckered.

It's far too much to simply be a schtick.

Dude should seek help.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. Elon does a fine job on his own driving the value of his companies into the dirt.

Thread jack; why did Ford stop making the Excursion when Chevy is still making the Suburban?

Here's the thing with the domestic automakers.

If you like it - you better buy it. Because even their good products are at risk for cancellation depending on the companies short term goals.

No one bought the excursion. It wasn’t nearly as reliable as the suburban

Ford didn’t need a bailout in 2008-2009. The only domestic auto company not to need one. They ran an ad to that effect and were crucified by Obama administration. Forced to stop advertising and take bailout money.

Typical uninformed OT poster.

The fact of the matter is Ford was in the worst shape of the Big3 and mortgaged the entire company, including the blue oval, to inject needed capital PRIOR to the economic meltdown.

GM and Chrysler had to get government backed loans, that they repaid with interest, due to the credit markets being locked up during the meltdown.

Just a quick simplified summary that no one here will remember in 2 minutes.

For most of it's existence, it was peddled with either the 5.4L Triton V8 (bad engine) or the 6.0L Powerstroke diesel (worse engine). Very few were sold with the 7.3L Navistar diesel unfortunately. Ford offered a V10 motor, but it was also very rare and extremely inefficient even by the standards of the time. I don't think they kept the V10 motor around much longer either. Most Excursions had the 5.4L Triton V8.

By comparison, the Suburban/Yukon could be had with at least 3 Vortec V8s of the time (all very reliable) and a 6.5L Detroit Turbodiesel, which like the 7.3L Navistar was slow AF but also pretty reliable by the 1990s.

Is Tesla?

Wasn't aware of that

I wonder if the issue is they don't have the designs finalized for the car that they intend to produce there

With DC voltage at that.
These govt mandated EV initiatives are as effective and self sufficient as Obamas Solyndra abomination.

No. It's because demand is plateauing.

Tesla sold fewer cars last quarter than they did the previous and lost market share to boot.

Going from memory, they were around 35k units below analysts projections for the quarter and those projections were lower than previous production.

Tesla really needs the Cybertruck to be a hit. However, they are finding out it is expensive to produce and it is so polarizing I do not believe it will be a sales homerun.

Yep. My cousin bought a tesla and is driving in for Thanksgiving from Arizona. He is having to stop 16 times and each time it takes 7 hours to charge. He might be late for Thanksgiving.

What?

I just plugged in Baton Rouge to Phoenix and it’s 25 hours including all charging stops (shows 12 stops and they are all 12-20 minute charges…can cut down stops by charging longer at one)

The same trip in Google Maps is 22 hours not including any gas station or bathroom break stops (which are included above by stopping)

So maybe an extra hour and half to 2 hours of travel difference and couple hundred savings in gas…and the Tesla drives itself

No need to be dramatic, you really think it would be 7 hours x 16 to take an EV on a road trip?

Tesla is fricked with the cybertruck.

Musk himself says they fricked up with it.

The whole point of the weirdo design was that it would be ultra cheap and easy to manufacture vs a “normal” car. That was the pitch. Now tesla says it’s gonna be crazy expensive to produce and scaling production for it will be much more difficult than anticipated.
