I worked with CW2 Barnes in Afghanistan. He was 160 SOAR.

All high speed guys. They are the best helicopters crews in the world

Sadly it doesn't look like the crew Hollywood and the media would put together, so doubt this will get the attention from this administration it should get.

God bless them and their families. And the rest of our boys over there, who still fight for what's right.

I believe this is why a lot of people find a training accident to be less likely. These guys are the best of the best and aerial refueling would be something they are extremely proficient at.

Either way it always sucks when you lose guys. Hope their families find peace but losing a child, brother, uncle, father or whatever they were in their short lives is hard.

If it was not a training accident I hope whoever did this isn’t breathing much longer on earth.

Didn’t Biden actually give up the ghost on a bunch of SOF names/information recently? “Accidentally “

It’s been an elephant in the room for decades. If you want “diversity” don’t go look at a regular infantry unit, and it just gets worse in SOF.

The best in the world aren’t perfect, and aerial refueling, especially with rotary aircraft, is just dangerous. We typically have the best fillintheblank in the world but we will still have accidents. Remember when we lost a helo during the Bin Laden raid?

While a lot of what you said is correct but come on. I don’t think you can compare an accident in training to the Bin Laden raid.

The Bin Laden raid was done on the lowest of low light nights. I’m sure there was also a combination of brown out and settling with power in that mishap.

I’m not denying training accidents happen but you can still ask questions especially after these last few years and all the lies that have been uncovered.

Sure you can, I just don’t think it’s healthy or accurate, given no other indicators, to immediately jump to conspiracy-esque conclusions.

Look at it this way: Blackhawks are primarily delivery vehicles, and this one just had a crew plus one. IF it was a secret squirrel mission they had already dropped off their customers, so is that something you would want any administration to announce?

And I guarantee you they rehearsed under those exact conditions, so it could have just as easily happened during training.

No DEI candidates in this group I see. Probably too dangerous of an assignment for they/them.

Wouldn't they have fighter escort?

No. The speed difference alone makes that nearly impossible. The fuel burn a fighter would do turning circles so the Blackhawk could stay close makes me shake my head.

My son had to outrun a mig in their Blackhawk a couple years ago. They had a large enough head start to get to “safe” airspace before the mig could close range.

Fighter jets fly overhead on missions that include helos all the time. So do AC-130s. Just depends on what the mission is.

They fly in an AO, they don’t fly escort for rotary in they way the question was asked.

Y'all do know that basically every 'helicopter accident' is just a DoD lie for operations that occur where they should not be, right?

Wrong. Like way wrong. I’ve intimate knowledge of what happened in the last 3 160th crashes as well as what happened with the Med evac crash out of Ft. Campbell earlier in the year. I will get the details behind this one as well.

I can’t for sure about this one, but the others were code for something.

Every year it seems like we hear of a military aircraft that crashes and kills everyone onboard while they're flying for training exercises. Are these pilots even qualified to fly? Or are they lowering the standards?
