If you do. Which brands or models would you recommend?

I've been shooting a browning cynergy 28" in shadowgrass camo for about 10 years. Have had next to zero issues with it and it shoots whatever rusted shells I feed it. Only downside is the camo has not held up well and I sometimes miss the 3rd shot for cripples.

Why would you give up the third shot?Nice to have for cripples and many other reasons that has nothing to do with being a bad shot.

I want as many shots as I can get.

I have used a browning Citori almost exclusively for ducks, geese and cranes for the last 35 years. I used #5 lead in a 2 3/4 inch shell for ducks and #2 lead for geese when lead was legal and #2 steel for ducks and BB for geese and cranes now, all Winchester Super X, 2-3/4 for ducks and 3 inch for geese and cranes. Modified choke in both barrels. I have a couple of semi autos and I have used them but I almost always default to one Citori for ALL wingshooting....
There is a slight problem with shooting a O/U from a blind of any sort...they are far shorter overall than pump guns and auto-loaders. The barrel length is the same but the receiver and action is shorter. It is VERY easy to have the muzzle of a O/U inside a blind where the longer pump and auto loader is very noticeable when the muzzle is inside the blind. Just something to keep in mind...it is possible to swing a 28 inch O/U inside a blind and it be pointed toward someone just a few feet away and neither of you notice while the longer pump or semi would be very noticeable. They are cats meow in tight cover though, especially timber.
The other thing is that they kick like a fricking mule. Most are recoil operated so any kind of reduction means the action has to be corrected to account for it. My citorri kicks like a damned mule, especially with 3 inch shells.

For me and me only I rarely ever hit the third shot where I regularly splash doubles with my Citori. For me I also leave fewer cripples because I know I have 2 shots only so if the first one does not fold the bird up graveyard dead I put the second in the same bird. When I am shooting my semi I find myself looking for the second shot before I am certain I have made the first one because I know I have the third one, if that makes sense. I waste the first one usually anyway. Most third shot birds are on the edge of my ability to knock them dead anyway....the distance a duck can travel withing a second of flaring is staggering....I know a couple of people who regularly splash the third shot bird but I ain't one of them...
I will say the only time I ever hit a true triple on ducks ( I have hit a couple of dutch triples before but only one true triple) was such a satisfying experience I left ducks flying everywhere and picked up because I was unwilling to take a chance on spoiling that memory with some BS LOL. Even my lab knew it was special....if I thought I could replicate that often I would put the O/U away but I know that I am not that guy LOL...

I get that but what is the average shot to kill ratio between first, second and third shots? I would hazard to bet that first and second is pretty close...lots of people will hurry the first and take time on the second other wise the first would be far and away the most efficient. I would bet the third shot is less than 50%....it is amazing how far a duck can travel within seconds of flaring from one shot, let alone a second shot....

The one situation where I prefer a semi to an O/U is when the morning flight is most likely the only flight one can reasonable expect. That is a rare situation in most areas where duck hunting is viable but in Georgia there is, generally speaking, one flight right at first shooting light that may last 30 minutes and the day is mostly done. Not always but pretty often. It is damn near impossible to shoot a limit in that situation without hitting some doubles...and hitting doubles with 3 shots, especially in low light and good decoying conditions, is easier than it is with 2. New Mexico, most of Colorado and West Texas is similar...a very short flight at first shooting light and the birds are settled in until after shooting time in the evening because no one is fricking with them. I know in most areas there is that flight and then another flight when half the hunters pick up and leave mid morning and then a third flight when the hard core pick up and leave at noon...in that situation I prefer the O/U because I am more efficient at it and hitting is more satisfying that missing, at least to me....I like shooting a gun but I really like hitting what I am shooting at....

agree with everything you said
30 years now with a citori satin hunter
best duck gun ever made
as for recoil just don’t shoot 3” shells

Use a white onyx half a season one year and I never did that crap again. I to tape a middle finger because the trigger guard would cut it open from the recoil during a decent hunt.

I have folded many, many ducks on the third shot. Not to mention having it for cripples. Allegedly I would have whacked many a bird on my 4th shot, if only floating a 4th shell in my Benelli was legal. Twice barrels are for trap and upland birds, imho.

Man IDK....if my shells are in an easy spot, I can reload an O/U quicker than than any auto loader. You have 2 more shots right away for cripples on the water.
My dad's old friend used to only duck hunt with a 28 gauge O/U and shot the heck out of some ducks.

I've shot mine a bunch. 3" mag recoil gave me headaches.

I have a Browning O/U, 12ga chambered 3 1/2. Will bring occasionally, but most days I bring Benelli SBEII

My question is why are O/U so overpriced?
