On this date in 1970 Saints Tom Dempsey kicks game winning 63 yard FG in Tulane Stadium.

The run up to the kick, the goal post being at the goal line, all so different 53 years ago.
The kick was from their own 37-yard line so LoS was inside their own 45-yard line. With kickers legs today you would only have to go 20 yards from the kickoff to be in scoring position!

Outdoors in the NOLA elevation and humidity is what makes this one still stand the test of the time to me even if it's been broken many times since then.

My Dad use to talk about being there. My Brother and I were talking about the kick a few years ago and agreed that we left (as we always did) with 5:00 left in the game

This version of the actual broadcast is better. It shows the sequence of plays leading up to Dempsey's FG. Also, the play by play announcer seems to think it's funny that the Saints & Dempsey are even attempting such a long FG. That's until the ball is about halfway to it's destination with his "I don't believe this" quote.

Nine year old me was watching that game on TV,and couldn't believe they were trying that. When he made it, I ran into kitchen and yelled at my Mom " The Saints just won on a 63 yard FG!", and she's like "Well that's nice"
