how do you know he didn't? you all toss that statement out thinking it is some kind of gotcha. sad thing is, most that have this shite put on them likely didn't vote for the current administration, but got stuck with it by those that did. you can't paint every resident of NO with a broad brush

My guess is that he received this large bill and contested it. An Entergy employee came out and could not locate the meter. Entergy probably said, "Well, you still owe it".

Gris Gris is far from a hipster restaurant…
I'm born and raised in ATL. I know a hipster restaurant when I see it. Maybe we have different definitions of hipster.

Is a dude that served like 15 years in the Marines a hipster to you?

Competency crisis has come to some cities like NO sooner but this kind of bs will be the norm across the country the further things decline.
Willing to bet $500 that you're over the age of 50. Can't stand to see things be better like education rates, crime has gone down a ton in all US, and salaries can ya? Lol. Pathetic.

I’ve posted the stories before of my yearlong runaround with the Louisiana IRS where they harassed me and sent me to collections for a debt I didn’t even owe from 5 tax years prior
I’m fighting this now. The state is collecting a tax debt for 4 years that I was not even residing in the state. I was in the military and 2 of these years I was in Afghanistan which is tax free. They sent all correspondence to the home I had in TN. I live in Louisiana now. It’s absurd the incompetence of this state. I am seriously considering moving again. I’m done with it here.

Cook is the type of guy that hipsters try to be
For reasons I just don't understand he's always had a love and connection for that city and has always loved the Magazine area which is why he chose there for Gris Gris but anyone who thinks this is some sort of role, act or persona doesnt know shite about him.
Cook is as salt of the earth as they come and I hate this for him, his wife and their employees but that city and it's leadership is a disaster and things like this rarely surprise me anymore.
Anyone who knows Eric knows he's one of the most passionate and unapologetically authentic person you will ever meet. He lives and acts often out of love and kindness without fear of consequence. Does that make it the best business strategy, no. BUT, ask Eric Cook if he is an entrepreneur and he'l happily tell you no.
The man loves to Cook. He loves to serve people. He's most happy when he's grinding away bringing joy to others with his talents, service and food.
That shite hole of a city doesnt want people like Eric Cook. As much love as he has for that city, it just doesn't return it to him. I selfishly wish he'd give a giant middle finger to the entire city and bring his talent somewhere else but I know in a couple of days he'll be over this, sipping on a Miller High Life and pouring whatever he lost in St John back into Gris Gris or his next project.

auto drafted $35,000 from our bank account due to a billing error.
Are businesses required to have their bank info stored with them? If not there’s no way I’d trust companies to not “error” in their own favor.

Keep fighting. I had a similar issue and mailed the Department of Revenue a bunch of paper work and a letter explaining the paper work to show their bill was incorrect. The LA DOR is terrible. They send you a bill based on false premises and the onus is on you to prove them wrong. That's not how it should be.

I have no clue but but he sounds like a fool and an idiot in that post.
Yet you comment that this is his fault
Ghost meters happen more than people realize in old building especially renovated buildings throughout the years sometimes having meters for adjacent buildings.
Some run for years without anyone paying or being attached to another bill and the usually corporate business just pays without even looking.
Then maybe somebody notices or the utility just assigns it to another customer.. either way it happens and getting them to figure it out can be a nightmare..
In this case he seems to be angry bc no one including the city who usually helps settles these issues would help

Best of luck. I had to be vigilant, write down the name, date and call of anyone I talked to because the amount of times I was told the wrong information, hung up on when transferred, documents lost that I sent (even certified) was absurd.
No one was helpful. There was no single person assigned to the case that could keep track of everything or that I could ask questions to. Just a letter saying I owed $4k and where to send the money…which then started to grow with late fees and eventually sent to collections during the time I was trying to get to the bottom of it and understand what this was and why I owed it.
The best/worst part is in the end those frickers actually owed me like $57 in overpaid taxes so in the end the state lost money over all of this nonsense. But I probably paid $20 in certified letters and over 12 hours on the phone over the course of the year (not to mention having to tell collections agency to F off and they would call weekly)
