LSU has received the ruling from the NCAA denying Jalen Cook of eligibility for this upcoming season and has already put in an appeal:

Can he play during the pendency of the appeal?

Im still not sure why they thought they would get a waiver.
Waste of a roster spot.

Anyone should have saw this one coming. Didnt play in exhibition on Monday, lots of other 2nd time transfers getting denied left and right over last several weeks as well.
NCAA just continues to fall flat on their face with things opening up a 2nd time transfer process that is so gray area'd nobody knows if they will be eligible or not. There has to be a better way than this.

Would this happen to a Kansas or Kentucky player?
No.
The NCAA is trash. Pretty funny our statement includes thanking the ncaa lol

Man, what an obsequious response.
I mean, say that you’re going to appeal and you want more transparency into the decision.
But also state your reasons why Jalen should be eligible and actually advocate for him in your statement.
Show a little backbone! Don’t actually THANK them for their long overdue response then compliment them on their hard work!

The NCAA just simply does not have proper rules and these kids don't know if they can or can't transfer for a 2nd time and play. It's unfortunate and a clear indictment on how poorly operated the NCAA is an institution. "Putting the athlete first" give me a damn break.

Victory for the ruling they gave with Will Wade, 1 game suspension for Maason Smith, and now denying Cook his waiver. frick this institution.

It sucks for both him and LSU, but it's hard to say this is a surprise. The NCAA was pretty clear when they came out in JANUARY saying the amount of 2x transfer waivers they would grant was going to be significantly reduced. Many players and coaches (not just Cook and McMahon) essentially called the NCAA on their perceived bluff...and they are coming up losers.
I don't know the basis of Cook's appeal, but it sounds like it was some sort of "mental health and well-being" argument (which has LONG jumped the shark, IMO) which I doubt will be reconsidered.
The next question I would have is how close is Cook to graduating? If there is a way he would graduate in December, perhaps there could be an argument for him to be eligible after graduation. The logic would be found in the Wright St. transfer's situation. Kid transfers from Wright St. to Ohio St. last season. After the season, he chooses to transfer from Ohio St. back to Wright St. At the time he had not received a degree from either school. So he was considered to be a 2x transfer not a grad transfer. He subsequently graduates from Wright St this summer. The NCAA grants his waiver because they now considered him a grad transfer instead of a 2x transfer.
Graduating in 3.5 years is not terribly uncommon. If I'm LSU and Cook, I think I would have tried to bust arse and graduate this December so I could petition to be eligible in December.

I hate it for LSU and Cook, but it’s the right thing for college sports. The new NCAA admin has made it a point not to grant these waivers all willy nilly and be consistent when previously not had just been so arbitrary.

Guess we won't finish in the top 10 in the SEC now

And now the NIT is out of reach

LSU Basketball stays cucked by Daddy NCAA. Take a page out of the North Carolina playbook and threaten to sue, then the NCAA will let him play.

When has the NCAA ever been lenient when it comes to LSU and eligibility?
Posted on 11/1/23 at 1:50 pm to tigersham
That’s what he gets for leaving in the first place.

People can bitch about the NCAA but this is on Cook and LSU. The NCAA issued a memo when the transfer portal opened up that detailed a very restrictive path to approval for 2-time transfers. There wasn't much press on it, but the few articles that were out there said that the interpretation by school officials was that the NCAA probably wouldn't approve 2-time transfer waivers.

Of course they denied it.
He should say he was burdened with racism every day at Tulane to get immediate eligibility like Justin Fields when he transferred to Ohio State.
