Not what I am talking about. I am seeing an uptick in people who no one would have ever said had a special need claiming to have autism. Just because someone likes D&D doesn't mean they have a special need. For someone who has a special needs child I would think that it might bother you when people claim it to get preferential treatment or just to get what they want. My wife and daughter both work with special needs kids and this is why it bothers me so much to see people claim something that can be extremely debilitating just so they can get their way.

I thrive in social settings.

I imagine your bitter old man act doesn't play so well.

Ditto. My 21 year old son was diagnosed at 3. It has not been an easy path for him. Anyone thinking it is some kind of good thing is just foolish.

"Social setting" = Tent City.

I think aspergers can be a positive, like Elon Musk. Its a higher functioning part of autism.

Pretty sure my older brother has this. Hes a CFO, but his grown kids have to help keep his social life organized.

Hes always had this weird attachment to numbers and statistics. When we were too young to play in a baseball league, he would organize his own and keep statistics.

Everyone wants to be a victim nowadays so they all want to claim some ailment. It's really weird.

I hate these people

No you aren't OCD. You just aren't a slob which is pretty normal. Congrats on being normal

Real actual diagnosed autism sucks hard. All these idiot kids that are slightly sociably inept saying they have autism is laughable.

Cool kids call it Neuro spicy now. Entire thing is insanity, and that's coming from someone with actual diagnosed mental issues.

Up until 1995-2000, autism was a pretty well defined, real disability, fairly apparent. The Pharmacy industry, grossly expanded the definition to include every child that woke up unhappy. Instead of changing diapers , pharmacies pushed pills reimbursed by ins.co./govt.

If I had a nickle for every time a client said “I saw on TikTok that I might have…”, I’d have courtside seats at Rupp.

Some dork on TikTok claiming that if you do X you have ASD =\= an actual diagnosis through the DSM-5-TR and further evaluation.

Yes I think it’s the badge of honor. “Neurodivergent” is for those not wanting to fully tarnish themselves as autistic but still get some sympathy and “I’m special” cred

This. My oldest daughter has ASD and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It’s a bad situation for her, but it’s absolutely brutal for parents.

Everybody’s a little autistic. And a little bipolar. With a splash of Tourettes. Everybody. And don’t even try to lie.

Being a victim is the new badge of honor.

It comes in many flavors.
So hot right now.

Yep. It is a bedrock change in your family life and future. It is irritating to see all the posers essentially choosing to label themselves. There are plenty who have no choice.

The only even remotely silver lining I can see is that this “popularity” may somehow lessen stigma or provide additional accommodation for those really affected.
