Pandering to Army

If I were Army, I'd be pretty disrespected by the level of pandering LSU is doing to "show respect." Not booing out the tunnel, singing their alma mater. They are a legit college football team and deserve to be treated like one.

Can we start anchoring topics with the word "Army" in them?

It’s not the way
You can’t hurt anyone’s feelings unless the media says it’s ok to do so

I wonder how many of our fans realize that we have a Military Appreciation game every year the home game prior to Veterans Day. We happen to be playing Army this year, the first time we've ever had a home game against a service academy. So they're doing a little more for it than they usually do. And by more I mean painting an endzone and having an american flag on our jersey, really serious stuff

What's funny is how much this has bothered an unhealthy number of LSU fans.

LSU Salutes, annually co-sponsored by the LSU and Cadets of the Ole War Skule, was established in March 1998 by a resolution of the LSU Board of Supervisors and endorsed by the Office of the Presidentas an official University observance.
LSU Salutes is an opportunity for the Ole War Skule to recognize and honor those who served with distinction in the Armed Forces of the United States of America, along with special guests, including all veterans and former and current cadets. It occurs each November on the Saturday of a home football game that falls nearest to Veterans Day. The event also recognizes and honors POWs, MIAs, and Medal of Honor recipients.
LSU Salutes is the catalyst for renewal of institutional and alumni commitment to the Ole War Skule. Through this effort, citizens are reminded of the significant sacrifices made by so many former and current cadets/midshipmen, alumni, and others who make possible our freedom today. Participants are also given the opportunity to express their appreciation and support for those who continue to serve and those preparing to serve in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

They will feel pretty disrespected when we score our 10th TD.

The LSU ‘fans’ saying ‘dont boo Army’ are the biggest cucks and losers on the planet
Truly a disgrace to our proud fan base

You’re confusing pandering with respect, dumbass.
Our fans will bitch about anything.

There should be no football at all in the armed forces

I love how all the women on Facebook is trying to tell us how to act with army Saturday.
The day I take advice from a bandwagon college football fan is the day I start watching the Kardashians

It’s a very dangerous world we live in. Young men and women who enter West Point face a very real chance that one day they will be in harms way in whatever the next Iraq, Afghanistan or Syria will be.
That decision to join the military to protect our freedoms, earns them the respect of the fans. And however good Army football is this year, they are overmatched in this tigers den.
It has to be exhilarating for twenty yr olds used to playing in smaller stadiums to emerge from the tunnel into tiger stadium on Saturday night. The sights and sounds of the stadium when the band starts pregame can overwhelm the senses, bringing a kid to his first tiger game and watching his face as the band hits those four iconic notes is about the best vicarious experience one can have.
I think cheering the Army team as they take the field is an awesome idea. I think the tailgating crew should embrace Army fans like no other.
A visiting team getting booed is a great tradition, the chorus of boos when Alabama takes the field in tiger stadium is absolutely part of the experience. And it is bonding for the opposing team to hear it, it gives them a bunker mentality.
Nevertheless, cheering an underdog team taking the field, fielded by players who chose a career path that provides protection for us so we can watch football other than take to bomb shelters, feels so right to me.
I think it would be enormously appreciated by the Army players and fans. And I think it’s a great look for LSU.
No one is operating under the illusion that once the opening whistle blows, LSU fans will cheer for LSU to kick Army’s butt. I’m all in favor of showing Army players and family we appreciate them.
When Army played LSU in baseball at Alex Box, during the national anthem where LSU players usually stand on the first base line and the visitors on the third base line, the teams had half the players from each team walk to the other baseline such that LSU and Army players were standing together down each baseline. The crowd responded by singling the anthem louder than ever. What a moment.
I get the argument that Army is deprived of the tiger stadium tradition of booing the opposing players when take the field. But I think cheering them gives them a much more unique and special experience. They know they are not being cheered to win the game, they are being cheered for choosing a career path that lets our kids play football without worries of missile sirens.

Weak arse people in this country today that are spouting off at the mouth is all.
If they are Honorable men they will take this arse whipping with a grain of salt considering we are superior.
If they get the Sads, join the media.

We have already showed plenty of respect we are paying them 1.6million. It is the second most we have paid for an OOC. Funding their athletic department is a sign of respect.
