Hayward T-15 Salt Cell reading very low salt

I know my salt is not "very low"
I added 80 lbs yesterday and 40lbs last weekend.
A 40lb bag usually raises my PPM by 300-400.
My cell is cleaned on schedule.
My cell was last replaced April 2018.
New circuit board was replaced earlier this year.
I plan to clean it today and hope for the best, realizing the cell might have done its due diligence in 5 years.
Is there any other advice/troubleshooting I can do before calling the pool company ?
Is there another better option for SWG today ?

Get a diy salt test kit. And take the cell to a trusted vendor to test.

Any chance you have a significant leak somewhere which is causing you to lose your salt water (which is being replaced by fresh water from your automatic filler)?

and usually only add salt after a big storm, which we know it has not rained in forever.
so all of a sudden my PPM was reading 1500, in the past week ive added about 160 lbs (4 bags) and when the chlorinator came back on it read 2800 and dropped by 100 all the way down to 200 and then 000

It's been a while but I believe there is a sensor in the cell that you can replace. But the problem is the cell and not the water.

At the 5 year mark you may be getting close to time for replacement. Any chance your water temp is kind of cold? That can sometimes show a lower reading. Sold my house with a pool back in February and do not miss it at all lol

Make SURE it is set to T-15

I am proficient at replacing Salt Cells and when the readings are low and you know the salt is in range, more than likely it's on its last leg. Pool stores charge outrageous mounts for replacements and you can source what you need online. Do not buy from a company named Salt Poolstore. They sell defective units and the return policy is horrible.
The last unit I purchased on Amazon was a Blue Works Salt Cell to match my T-15 configuration.

I once had a problem in the Fall when tree leaves kept falling in the pool and eventually the salt level was low. The leaves were absorbing the salt in the water and I was unknowingly removing it.

Tf pool test kit
This test kit is excellent. My salt generator did the same thing recently but after soaking it in muratic acid and water in 5 gallon bucket it started working again. First time it happened to me. Maybe all the dust from the extended drought this year got it dirtier than past years.

were the readings comparable to the OEM Hayward cell or did you have to make any configuration adjustments?
(I have never tested my salt manually, always just trusted the salt cell readings)

My T15 started reading low salt and would shut off generating chlorine. I knew I had enough salt (actually prob had a little bit too much), so it was definitely faulty readings from the cell.
I changed the T15 to read as a T3 in the settings and it brought the salt readings up enough to restore chlorine production. Eventually that no longer worked but it let me get another year out of my last salt cell. Ive since replaced it with a T-3 since thats all I really needed for the size of my pool.

I agree. the one I bought from there only lasted 15 months. thankfully it was cheap enough to where I wasnt too pissed off.
I also went with blue works salt cell this time around. Hope its better!

The colder your water gets the more your low salt light will be out of wack. Take some water to pool store and get it tested.
