are these specific to O&G or "general use" that happens to be used by O&G?
It’s a subsidy. And an incalculable one. People screaming end subsidization of EVs while driving DOE funded Ecoboosts around.

There was never a demand for an EV truck. There never will be a demand for an EV truck. What gave them the impression that there was?

GM delays start of EV production at Michigan plant due to lack of demand

Not in freight service, which is the majority in the US. Diesel-electric trains have no peer when it comes to hauling stuff and as far as reliability, average diesel unit lasts around 25 years in service.
Sweet mother of God you have no clue what you are talking about.
You fit in perfectly here.

Yep. Just do what Tesla did, make commuter cars and stop there. There is a market to be made for that.

I'm sure Mayor Pete and his merry band of know-betters and do-gooders will figure out some way to back door an excuse to force GM to make the cars and us to buy those fricking things.

Out of curiosity how often do the traction motors get shopped vs the prime mover?
If I recall correctly you are work for NS, right?
If so I assume you spend most of your time in a Dash 9.

General Motors spent about $20 billion so far trying to scale up their EV production while we still don't have a decent public charging network. Now GM has has excellent battery and charging technology, a world class EV chassis that even Honda/Acura are using, and the ability to crank them out in volume......but nobody wants them.
People want EVs, they just dont want to pay $10k more MSRP for the EV version of the ICE vehicle plus another $10k of dealership markups.
After they fixed the initial battery issues the Bolt sold so well they had to reverse course on it's cancellation to develop a new one for '25.
The biggest issue is all the auto makers got greedy as hell w/trying to turn everything into a luxury vehicle and thought they could lead their EV sales w/$70-$80k SUVs when the people who actually want them need them to be in the $30k-$50k range.

Everyone in this thread will own and drive an electric vehicle before it is over….book it. I never thought I would see a battery powered weed eater or chainsaw, but I have recently bought both and they are awesome.
Battery technology is improving at an alarming rate…in the next few years, we will all be driving cars powered by them.

You did not read that wrong, that was his way of justifying O&G getting subsidies to the multi billion dollar company with no issue, but it was bad to for EV companies to give consumers the subsidies.
Oil and Gas is heavily subsidized

“evolving EV demand,”
It hasn't actually evolved though, demand is still at a virtual zero.

With a hybrid you have the best of both worlds.
While true, you've also got the worst of both as well. I hear this all the time, yet people seem to completely overlook that you now have an engine, transmission, and battery to think about. I think it makes a lot of sense for trucks. For commuter vehicles, if you've got a two-or-more-car household, there's no reason not to have one full EV in the lineup.

Bookmarked. I'll take that bet.
Making a weed eater or small chainsaw work around your house off a battery is a long way away from producing an EV vehicle with a range comparable to an ICE vehicle.

No it isn't. The core chemistry for rechargeable lithium ion batteries hasn't changed in 20 years. The 18650 cells in a 20 year old laptop are the same as what's in your power tools today. What's improved are the control systems using and charging of those batteries, but the fundamental limitation of current battery technology still exists and that has seen almost no improvement over the years.

You've got a severely skewed view on this whole topic, it's evident in your every post.

Except for ICE vehicles the ceiling for improvement is much higher because the energy density available in a gallon of gasoline is still vastly higher than what EV's have available. If it wasn't for the consumer-driven bloat, modern ICE vehicles would see much higher MPG's.

You mean to tell me people don't want a vehicle they can't drive any further than outside of their city without having to wait hours to charge?
