Yep. Just do what Tesla did, make commuter cars and stop there. There is a market to be made for that.

After they fixed the initial battery issues the Bolt sold so well they had to reverse course on it's cancellation to develop a new one for '25.
The biggest issue is all the auto makers got greedy as hell w/trying to turn everything into a luxury vehicle and thought they could lead their EV sales w/$70-$80k SUVs when the people who actually want them need them to be in the $30k-$50k range.

Everyone in this thread will own and drive an electric vehicle before it is over….book it. I never thought I would see a battery powered weed eater or chainsaw, but I have recently bought both and they are awesome.
Battery technology is improving at an alarming rate…in the next few years, we will all be driving cars powered by them.

While true, you've also got the worst of both as well. I hear this all the time, yet people seem to completely overlook that you now have an engine, transmission, and battery to think about. I think it makes a lot of sense for trucks. For commuter vehicles, if you've got a two-or-more-car household, there's no reason not to have one full EV in the lineup.

Bookmarked. I'll take that bet.
Making a weed eater or small chainsaw work around your house off a battery is a long way away from producing an EV vehicle with a range comparable to an ICE vehicle.

No it isn't. The core chemistry for rechargeable lithium ion batteries hasn't changed in 20 years. The 18650 cells in a 20 year old laptop are the same as what's in your power tools today. What's improved are the control systems using and charging of those batteries, but the fundamental limitation of current battery technology still exists and that has seen almost no improvement over the years.

What's improved are the control systems using and charging of those batteries, but the fundamental limitation of current battery technology still exists and that has seen almost no improvement over the years.

Except for ICE vehicles the ceiling for improvement is much higher because the energy density available in a gallon of gasoline is still vastly higher than what EV's have available. If it wasn't for the consumer-driven bloat, modern ICE vehicles would see much higher MPG's.
