Probably won’t surprise anyone. Saw a pretty small festival recently that Jason isbell was playing at. Someone gave me backstage passes to go behind the stage so I took my 4 year old son back there to meet him. Literally NO ONE was back there, was the stage, then a huge field with a couple trailers for the artists in the distance. Jason and the band wrap up and he’s walking down, his stage manager is the only one with him as they’re about to walk towards an open field with no one around. I said hey Jason I have a little fan here was wondering if he could get a picture or quick autograph. The stage manager turned around and gave me the “give us a second” finger I’m like okay. Isbell never turned or looked in my direction despite being 5 ft away. He gets in his trailer, a truck pulls up and hooks up and takes him away. I could understand if there was a ton of people trying to get something from him but legit it was just us the entire time back there after the show. I know artists are busy people, but I thought that one was a little ridiculous. At first I was like I understand, but as time went on I thought that was pretty bad

Back in 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee. I was walkin' down the street minding my own business, just walking on. Feelin' good. I walk around the corner and a man walked up, hit me in my chest. I fall on the ground and I look up and it's Dr. Martin Luther King. I said 'Dr. King?' and he said 'Ooops, I thought you were some body else.'

Many years ago Big Cat Ernie Ladd walked into our gym during basketball practice. Supposedly he knew someone/coach/teacher at school and was visiting. He picked up one of the loose basketballs as we were practicing on opposite goal and slammed the phuck out of it. Shook shite. And walked away with teacher/coach laughing. We talked and laughed about this for years.

It vaguely reminds me of a story I saw by Mark Harmon about his dad Tom (Heisman winner, 1940). When Tom was a broadcaster in L.A. he was friends with another Heisman winner, my best guess is Les Horvath. They were both from Indiana, only a couple of years apart in age, and Horvath settled in L.A. Anyway, doesn't matter, it was another Heisman winner/WWII veteran that the Harmons knew. Anyway, in the Harmon household, the Heisman had a place of honor (of course) and the other winner, he had a room built around it. The Harmons were coming back from dinner one night and Tom's wife (Mark's mother and, of course, the Nelson twins' grandmother) says to Tom, "I don't know what the big deal is about this trophy. Everybody we know has one." Tom loved that (sarcasm).

SawTom Cruse filming in City Park in NO. After the shot was finished he came over to where we were watching and took pictures and signed autographs. Great guy.

Met Larry Hagman, also a great guy. Was at Midway airport.

I've have interacted with several celebrities, especially during my time in NYC. Here are a few of them.

Christina Ricci - Very nice, chatted for a few minutes at a restaurant

Samuel L Jackson - Down to earth and genuine good guy

Michael C Hall - I noticed him on a semi empty subway car. He saw me notice him and he just shook his head no. I guess he didn't want any attention

Selma Hayek - sweet person and took a picture with me

John Cena - Grade A douchebag. I don't buy his make a wish facade.

Stone Cold Steve Austin - He got me and a friend hammered. Class Act and got a picture with him

Roger Waters - Prick

Jon Bon Jovi - Seemed like a nice guy, just rushed when I met him

Steve Martin - Nice guy. My cousin ruined it by asking for a picture and he left

Chris Cornell - Strange, but really nice guy. This was just a few months before he died

I could list all of the athletes I've met, but none of them stood out outside of how awesome Shaq was each time I met him

This may be different but I was stationed in DC back in 2018. The Ravens during training camp had one day dedicated to military members. Afterwards, all the players and coaches came over and signed autographs. Everyone was awesome but the two that spent the most time with us was John Harbaugh and Matthew Judon.

He was part of a movie shoot at Lakeway 2 in Metairie. Unbeknownst to me they were filming a shot from the lobby floor of Harry and 2 other actors in the glass elevator going from floor 1 to floor 3….until the stopped on floor two where I was waiting for a ride. He was cool about it but some prick on floor 3 was yelling

Used to play music. Opened up for several big acts throughout the 90's and early 2000's. The worst one was Ricky Van Shelton. We sound checked with the production company then after we finished his manager and security came in and said Ricky is ready to sound check so we couldn't stay in the venue. Asked us to please go back to the dressing room. We said oh he's one of those.

99% of the acts hang out for our sound check, do theirs then shoot the shite after. Same after the show. Not Ricky...lol.

a couple more...

these will both out me a cheesy christian kid growing up in the 90s...

but i did an event that had skillet performing and was working a merch booth. all of the sudden a girl shows up and starts working with me. i didn't really look over and it was the drummer/singer of the group working the merch booth with me. incredibly friendly and nice. kinda a surprise because the rest of the band were a bit dicky.

we held a concert with mercyme and a local band opening. the dudes from mercyme were complete dicks at every turn. a local family that made absolutely amazing food for military families, college groups, missionaries, etc. did a ton of briskets that turned out miraculously and served both bands and the crew. the lead singer said, "this is Texas, y'all couldn't have catered some mexican food instead of some family?" then during the concert, they locked controls on the local band and made them sound terrible and flat. after they finished up, their sound guys came up and unlocked the sound board and MercyMe sounded normal. i have 0 love for those dudes.

i also attended super summer event that had Matt Chandler and Chris Tomlin. Those are both fairly huge names in the 90s. I had done a fairly large and sketchy prank to some people in my group and arrived late at a bible study in a cow suit. don't ask questions. i ran in and came in to the bible study and sat down and slapped my friend that put me up the dare on the back (while still in the suit.) who i thought was my friend, was actually Chris Tomlin and he kinda wretched away from me and went up and lead worship to a group of about 40 of us side eyeing me the whole time. i walked out of that and Matt Chandler walked up and i ran up and took a picture with a disposable camera in the suit and he had a WTF look, but played along. any time tomlin saw me for the rest of the week he walked the other way.

Two stories one celebrity.

Michael Landon

When I was a kid he was at a telethon. I asked him for his autograph. He didn't even look at me. He just mumbled "keep the line moving"..WHAT frickING LINE? I was 7...frick him.

My buddy was a California firefighter. They saved a several homes in Malibu during some wildfires. Michael Landon was the only one who came to their staging area to personally thank them. Go figure.

Same buddy took a job with the Seattle Fire Department. They were on scene as a safety precaution during the filming of some movie scenes.

During a break Tom Hanks was actually making fun of a handicapped guy (cerebral palsy) behind his back. My buddy slid up beside him and very quietly said, "would you like to make fun of me?" Hanks gave him a scared look and scurried off like nothing happened.

I guess making fun of a handicapped guy is easier than a 6'2" muscled up firefighter. My buddy figured he didn't get thrown off set because Hanks was embassrassed at getting caught and didn't say anything.

I worked a local Poison concert for their Flesh and Blood Tour.

Bret Michaels pranced around with this huge blonde bodyguard. He never spoke to any of us. I never saw him speak to any of his bandmates

C.C. DeVille, Rikki Rockett, and Bobby Dall were all hanging out backstage after the concert while gear was being taken down and loaded (6 tractor-trailers worth).

They were carrying on with the roadies and local crew like normal guys. Then about 40 pizzas showed up about the time we were finished. They had ordered them and fed us all. Good dudes. All of them.

I have heard nothing but great things about Cruise from people whom have met him. He's not the a-hole people make him out to be.
