Anybody here tried this? Will be getting a new center console delivered between March and May. Would like to see about some kind of solar maintainer if feasible. Would like it for MK trolling motor batteries mostly. It will have the MK charger and 3 Lead Acid batteries. Haven’t took the Lithium plunge yet
It will also have 2 cranking, and one house battery but I think I’ll use it regular enough to keep those charged.
The boat I have now had a crank and house battery and I’ve never had to charge those.

I’ve go no experience with this yet, but I’m curious on this idea too. I know some new work trailers have them for led lights and trickle charges for batteries that start pumps, compressors, etc. Seems a perfect fit on the top of a T-top. Also curious how it would hold up in the salty conditions.

I have heard of people doing it but they seemed to have rigged it themselves. I don’t know enough about it to try it myself. Seem like there would be a product or at least a kit. Tried google and there are components but I wouldn’t know where to start.

I’m not sure about rigging it up for the trolling motor but the on I have has a cigarette lighter attachment to charge the house batteries. It also had one with clips that I could attach to the starter batteries one at a time. I’m sure there are ways to hook it up for your system, you might want to check the hull truth for a broader reach.

To each their own but it seems like a no brainer to go ahead and install lithiums all the way around in your new boat.

For the TM for sure. Going cheap on those is not as big a risk, and there would be no need for a trickle. My two are always above 80% after a trip, and sometimes above 90%.

Thought about it but I want to give it some more time. I know of some guys having issues with Lithiums. Charging issues that they are having to diagnose. Saying that I don't know them and hearing it second and probably third hand. If I was space limited or worried about weight, I would look in to it.

I read BBC every day, and I have seen virtually no issues when someone uses a proper charger.

I haven't bought yet, but will be grabbing one similar to this before it sits a bit more between trips this winter (my storage doesn't have power access). Mine is 24v though (lead acid batteries like you).

Did it for a very long time. Use a low power panel and you won't need a controller. I used a noco panel but I think they stopped making them.

I would just have TM batteries wired to charge off engine when it’s running. Will get a much more “reliable” charge that way.

Yeah, the mechanic I use hooks those up. I need to talk to him and see what all is involved

I bought a HMMWV off gov't auction. These trucks commonly have them installed when in use. The one I got didn't have one on it. The OEM batteries for these things are about $600 a pop and mine had dead batteries. I refused to buy the OEM stuff and instead got 2 Optima yellow tops. Still they are $300 and change per battery. So, with 2 batteries and the price, and possibly not driving it for spells, I opted for one of the trickle chargers. Haven't installed it yet as I haven't decided on an install location. I think it was about $150 off ebay.
