What is he supposed to do at this point in the season? He can’t bring in any other players and not having a Dline coach, which is outside of his control, has clearly affected this Dline. Will it turn the defense completely around, no, but what if it gets us 5 key stops the rest of this season? At this point, you don’t turn down any real help or advice. It’s all about getting them to step up, at key points. Even if we have to plant our flag in the red zone and force FG’s, it’s a win with this offense.

John Jancek doesn’t have the D-line experience to make the amount of difference needed to get these really talented guys playing with the leverage they can have. IMO the D-line is our biggest problem, not the secondary. No pressure on the QB and not stopping the run creates problems for the unit that exposes the inexperience at other positions. It’s the kind of tweak that could work. You can’t fire people mid season without worsening the problem, getting them help is a good option.

If he's willing to help and they're willing to have him, what's gonna be the harm there bub?

You are a miserable fricker. Glad my life doesn’t totally revolve around 18-23 year old kids playing a game.

It’s a net positive. Take it for what it is. Nobody is saying it’s going to solve all our problems.

Also, it says to me that it’s clear to everyone (including CBK) that we are lacking in terms of defensive position coaching.

Depending on how the rest of the year goes (barring a huge turnaround really) I fully expect it be addressed in the off-season, which is about the best you can hope for at THIS point.

Unusual timing for hire... A bye week would have been a gift...let’s find out who really wants it.

Dumbass take. He can't hire someone from another team right now. Anyone who is any good has a job.

However, he does have a coaching legend living in Baton Rouge who just happens to love LSU. That grad assistant will probably be grateful for the tutelage as well.

How surprising is it that the d-line is an epic fail? Did anyone see this one coming?

With how bad we are at the simple fundamentals, PJ could be a great hire. All we need is a couple more stops a game paired with this offense and if they can get to the qb a couple more times we can win some games

I think this should have been done much sooner. Going into the season without a DLine coach was a mistake.

Exactly! frick BK for not bringing in more players and a new defensive coordinator from another team mid season! There’s zero excuse why he couldn’t do that!

Ima huge fan of this move.
BK and company could have easily continued on as they have been.
But whether it is Woodward or BK making decision to bring on Jenkins, I’m happy to see out of the box thinking and effort to bring some stability to the D Line room.

And honestly, I think this move will make a LOT of difference… maybe not right away but within 2 or 3 weeks I expect a much more efficient D Line.

Because he teaches fundamentals, recognizes tendencies, corrects deficiencies and KNOWS how to get the best out of every player given their skill set. Bringing him in can only help and he is a respected figure in the coaching community. He will have more input then teaching D Line technique.

Yesterday, the issue was that Brian Kelly was forced to hire him. Today’s talking point is it’s a meaningless hire.

I don’t think anyone has an issue with Jenkins coming in, I think people are rightfully questioning why this move or similar wasn’t made sooner? The issues did not just pop up in game 5. Kicking down Jancek to DL coach, which is not his specialty, is a head scratcher.

It's better than just sitting there not doing anything. That dude is good at coaching DL and hopefully can get them playing with some emotion.
