I hope our next coach is an up and comer that doesn’t demand this kind of contract. I’d rather role with a young coach and if he looks impressive his first 2-3 seasons then you can talk about longer contract. If they don’t work out it’ll be a lot easier to move on.

To me, he is just like Kelly. He wins a lot of games, but just cannot get over the hump and win the important ones.

But the vast majority of coaches never sustain winning programs. Then even the ones that do still usually don’t win a NC. So only a tiny sliver of coaches win a NC.
So what available NC-winning coaches are out there that you’d want?

The best we can get is a proven winner, give him the resources needed, and see if he can get over that hump. That’s what we’ve done.

The defense is alarming and NIL and portal are whole new worlds so that adds more unknowns. Programs can now just bankroll wins and traditional recruiting is out the window.

College football is littered with such coaches. Remember how we wanted Napier and Tom Herman?

Truth be told, I wanted Hugh Freeze. I think Auburn made a great hire there.

The established successful coaches are married to their programs already. Your best bet is to get an up and comer and sign him to a lower contract price and see how it goes. If it fails the buyout is minimal. Essentially what UT did. They’d have their guys on 3 year deals and could easily let them go with little financial risk.

Agree. Hate to admit it but I really wanted Lincoln Riley at the time.

The 10 year long contract is ridiculous, but the amount of pay is even more ridiculous.

Woody loves to spend not just 10s of millions but 100 of millions of other people’s money.

It’s one reason why we don’t have NIL money

The problem is no one should have a ten year contract at 60 and with zero skins on the wall.

Scotty went the correct route in baseball but not football

I've been saying for years that we caved into the agents getting these giant contracts for the coach. TD assured me that there is no way around it. I think contracts should be saddled with high pay for high results and lower pay for lower results. It should be spelled out to protect both parties. Right now, the coach is the only one protected.

We are stuck with Kelly for a long time and all that money that will eventually be used for a buyout won’t be used to buy players via NIL

If you get lucky like ND did some morons will come and steal him away from you for nothing.

Really? Have you see his record versus ranked teams? It’s not good. Who cares about winning a high school like division

You morons are still going to be blaming O for everything when Kelly is going 8-4 in 2027.

Still blows my mind how people talk about the head coach of the greatest season in college football history - a height Brian Kelly could never dream of reaching.

What he did last year with this roster was phenomenal. This is year two after a make shift roster rehaul. If you don’t see where this program is going, then leave and never come back. Some of y’all just have to hate on SW. You can’t even see the greatness he has done.

Bringing his offensive schemes to the bayou and letting him pluck the best players from LA, TX, and all over the south would've been awesome.

And people wanna complain about his D. Oh well, thank God we went a different route so we could enjoy some lockdown defense instead.

we could have had the best offense in the SEC and a 100+ nationally ranked defense?

oh, wait ...
