Tell me more about the inoculants….I did 2 acres with GC seed two weeks ago and it’s coming up in the shady areas. Might switch the whole property if it does well and produces a lot of food

I had planted cereal rye in September (only time I had available). They had gotten .2" in Henry County, AL since then. I was expecting the plots to be a total loss. Surprisingly, most of them made a very thin cover, but grazable. They were dry as can be and just hanging on when I got back up here on the 3rd.

Amazing how just this light rain last night perked them up. If we get the rain they're calling for on Tuesday and Wednesday, they'll be decent. Cereal rye is some hardy stuff, apparently.

Levee, GCS started inoculating with lots of bacteria (not just nitrogen fixing kinds) and mycorrhizal fungi and more. They tell about in on their website on the Fall Release page. I’m no farmer, but it made sense to me. I am about halfway through a 5-yr commitment to this experiment and it’s starting to work. This fall’s plots are way better than before.

I’m not sure what’s making the difference but it looks like I know what I’m doing, when I really don’t. The soil is changing, I’m seeing earthworms, it believe my poor ol sandy soil holds more water longer.

If I remember right the inoculant only is only good for 30ish days or so. Did your seed not come with it?

Disced, smoothed, threw seed, and covered 30 plots. Started Friday morning and have to cover 7 more plots this morning and we’re done! Never busted arse this fast to get seed in the ground. My body hurts from being bounced on a tractor for 2 days but I’m
Glad we waited. Rain baby rain!

You think you’re the only one with seed out and continue to miss forecasted rain events?

I said screw it, I’m going to frost seed Durana Clover in February. Haven’t tried it before, but I’m going to give it a try.

I just emptied my rain gauge and it had 1/4” in it, almost all of it from Friday morning. If the forecast for the next few days hold I’ll be off to good start... which is a relief because I planted 4-5 weeks later than normal waiting for rain.

Yes, looks like your seeds have all the inoculants I got. No mixing required.

Did anyone end up changing around what they planted due to planting late?
