Dashcam was finished. It was fine. Very strong ending up lots of unlikable stuff in it.

Deadstream is much much better IMO and much much much funnier

Attack the Block finished. Very good in its way. Reminded me a lot of like 80s adventure movies. But there’s a very hard line of “these are very bad kids” and trying to make us feel for them feels very odd.

A few I’ve watched recently:

- Dracula Untold - Better than I expected, enjoyed this one. Interesting take on Dracula.

- Dracula 2000 - I always liked the origin story of Dracula in this one so I decided to revisit it after watching the above. It was good, better than I remembered, but not great. Lots of Wes Craven touches here.

- Sleepy Hollow - Another that was better than I remembered. Johnny Depo is good but his campiness detracts a little in otherwise tense scenes.

- Sunshine - Underrated movie, still holds up.

I started on September 1st just to get to everything. Most of these are new except for Idle Hands, Purge, and Nightmare.

Halfway through Cabinet of Curiosities*
Deep House
You're Next
Odd Thomas
Invasion of the Body Snatchers*
House
Friday the 13th Parts 5-7
A Knock at the Cabin*
Train to Busan*
Cocaine Bear
See No Evil
My Best Friend's Exorcism
Nope*
Idle Hands
Tales of Halloween
The Crucifixion
Haunt*
Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
The First Purge
Ginger Snaps*
Sleepaway Camp*
Wolfman
House on Haunted Hill (original)

*My favorites so far.

The ending of Sleepaway camp was something else. I went in completely blind.

The Deep House

I really liked this one. Typical horror tropes to a degree, but the setting was so new and unique that it worked better than most.
quote:

Phantasm

Man, this one terrified me as a kid. But I rewatched it a few years ago and it didn't hit me the same anymore and felt tremendously outdated. I found myself more bored with it.

Terrifier

This one was pretty overrated. It was okay for what was obviously a very low budget movie. But gore for the sake of gore doesn't do much for me, and the characters' actions in it are so stupid and irrational that it took me out of it. So much so that I have very little interest in the sequel (and they also completely ramped up the violence and gore for it too).

Train to Busan

I haven't seen this one in a while, but I remember it being really good.
quote:

The Wailing

As mentioned, watched this last week and loved it. It's excellent.

Do you mean Train to Busan, or is this another one (sequel?). I need to rewatch Train; think I may do that soon.

I was on that "camcorder view" movies kick for a while. Favorites are:

Grave Encounters
Taking of Deborah Logan
V/H/S

Also liked Host (the online seance gone wrong movie). It was only an hour but really well done. Deadstream is damn good, too.

My 9 yr old is starting to show some interest in the horror movies I watch but still not ready for the really scary stuff, so I going with cheesy 80's and 90's horror this year. Started him off with Jack Frost and he loved it.

Peacock has a surprisingly great collection of old horror movies so this is on my list:

The Funhouse
Bad Moon
The People Under the Stairs
The Pit
Nightbeast
Eaten Alive
Puppet Master 1&2
Hell Night
Chopping Mall

Terrifier 2 is very different from the first one. Its an actual movie with an actual plot and characters. Even Art the Clown gets some sort of character development. The violence and gore is not ramped up. Its actually toned down quite a bit. There's only one really gory kill. I enjoyed the first one because of the over the top absurdity of it but it was just a series of brutal killings with no real plot. The second one works as a real movie. Other than one scene, the gore is fairly tame by comparison. That one scene is pretty awesome though.

In the past couple of weeks Ive seen,

-The Wailing(90/100) Incredible movie that was totally worth the slow burn. One of the greatest third acts in cinema history.

-As Above, So Below(80/100) Never watched this because I thought its subject was something totally different than what it was. Pleasant surprise. Keeps the creepy vibes throughout.

-I See You(64/100) I enjoyed the twist that came and it really came out of nowhere. Otherwise, it was a pretty standard thriller, and I like Helen Hunt.

-The Void(2017)(55/100) I watched this because I saw a few people on r/horror reccomend it. Had no clue what it was about. It was as low budget as you could get. Had some creepy and disgusting moments. I did not finish the last twenty or so minutes. Too much body horror going on and thats not my thing.

-No One Will Save You(41/100) The first 15 minutes or so was compelling but it just got boring and stupid after that and it took me two watches to get through.

The Boogeyman is coming to Hulu next Thursday October 5th in case anyone was waiting to see that. I know the reviews arent stellar but I am looking forward to it.

Some of my new watches for this season will be A Tale of Two Sisters, Occulus, and Phantasm. Also cant wait for Mike Flanagan's The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix in a couple weeks.

To be devils advocate of your post:

I hated the wailing. It’s been years since I saw it but very much remember feeling insulted by the movie

As Above, So Below, I agree. Other than the main character is just the worst lol.

Come on. The Void is great. I don’t even like body horror. I didn’t think this was tooo bad.

I am not finished with No One Will Save You. It’s ok.

Talk to me was good as I wasnt expecting anything going in. Nothing special or groundbreaking but a good horror. A24 does put out some gems, Green Room was underrated, as I thought it was fantastic. RIP Anton Yelchin.

If you like Anton Yelchin, Odd Thomas is a good sci fi / horror one to watch also. Not overtly scary or anything but I enjoyed it. Also, John Dies at the End is a good oddball sci fi / horror.

Green Room - Struggling punk rock band on tour gets a gig at a hole in the wall. Ends up being a neo-nazi bar and they witness a murder in the green room after their set. It gets pretty tense and mild gore.

Odd Thomas - Anton is a short order cook that sees dead people and demons. The demons are kinda like grim reapers in that they pick people to die. Not a gory type movie. Its actually PG-13

John Dies at the End - A new street drug sends people across time and universes but some poeple come back not human.

That was something if you weren't expecting it...even today. My favorite though is Sleepaway Camp 2....it's a funny movie with some creative kills. Probably watched it 100 times.
