This would be my #1 reason for keeping a membership. I've gotten help on AA and DL in the clubs that would've taken hours to get fixed in a regular line. But is that worth the credit card spend limit per year? That's for each individual to decide. Also, if your flights are constantly delayed or cancelled it may be time to find another airline with better operations to your destinations

I am Platinum on Delta. With the new system I will be fortunate to make Gold.

It’s a smart decision for them though. Too many top tier flyers. Even being platinum and booking with my SkyMiles Amex I will be 17th for a first class upgrade to a place like SLC or even DFW.

And the lounges are like a Carnival cruise. Overcrowded and packed with children.

On the other hand, it could backfire on them. It would not be the first Atlanta mega Corp to completely screw up.

Why does this shock you, flying from a hub to another hub (even for AA instead of DL)? Flying between Chicago and Houston, I knew I was *never* getting upgraded as a United 1K. This was the same thing on the route from Houston to Seattle to Anchorage. So many oil workers on that route, that I think I was once in between 60 and 70th for an upgrade on a 737.

I think they are going to revise some of these new changes. People are in revolt over these changes. It's just too drastic all at once

One more thing. According to experienced travelers on FT, the most overcrowding is occurring at ATL and New York. This may solve the overcrowding problem at those but the lounges that aren't in hubs are going to be ghost towns

The frog won't boil immediately. Everyone hated Scott Kirby at AA, but what were people based in Dallas or Charlotte going to do about it? You suck it up, to avoid a regional jet to Atlanta, or Houston.

The changes will stick, it's just a matter of how long it takes to implement.

Doesn’t shock me or even surprise me. The point is that there are too many “elite” flyers, and I don’t blame them for the change.
Basing it on miles versus dollars is way outdated.

Having Centurion access is nice, but there are so few of them that you’d have to frequent those limited number of airports on a frequent basis for it to be worth it.

I have an Amex platinum partly due to the SkyClub access. I'm going to wait and see if these changes stick, but it does make it harder to justify the fee now.

I don't fly a lot for work, but I take probably 4-5 trips a year and it's nice to have access to a lounge. I typically will book work flights as early as possible and upgrade to comfort+ on my own dime or use points. This would be the only way to get into the Skyclub when the change is implemented. Then I'm forced to buy something above economy for personal trips. I was never too concerned with status, because I don't fly enough, but having access to the lounge is a great perk.

The Centurion lounges are basically the same thing, but there are over 50 sky club locations and by 2023, there will only be 16 Centurion locations. They're currently building them in Atlanta(which will be needed if these changes stick), DC and Newark.

For those like myself who fly frequently enough, the biggest draw of having an Amex platinum is lounge access. Why am I spending $700ish/year on a credit card when the biggest perk is being taken away?

I have other cards with much cheaper fees that get me things like global entry, clear, etc. the Amex was well worth the fee because pretty much anywhere I flew I got free food and drinks. That shite adds up if you’re sitting at a normal airport bar.

There are so many rewards/benefits with AMEX platinum that would still make it worth it if you were limited in lounge visits.
Given the increase in people in the lounges, the $75K spending threshold for unlimited usage is a good move.

DTW

Absolutely my favorite airport for International travel.

Delta slowly killing off my desire to fly them exclusively again. It sucks because I'm just a few trips shy of finally hitting Million miler status.

I guess it's still BA and United for me.

For me, I'm not sure the benefits will still be worth it without lounge access. I've keep the platinum for a few years, with these changes in 2024 I will probably just rotate this card out on a 2-3 year rotation with other cards that have similar benefits, but cheaper fees. I know I need to be careful with chase 5/24 rule, but lots guidance online how to do that.

Don’t you still get the ability to buy SC access with Amex plat? You’re just limited to 6 without card spend.

It’s trash for heavy travelers but if you fly less than 3-5x a year, it’s not a big deal especially if you triage centurion access around in there to stretch it out.

What sucks hard is the delta co-branded Amex plat card no longer even having access to buy. That is a huge devaluation on that card with how they’ve gimped the companion certificate. I’m struggling to see the value in the co-branded cards

If you spend $75k in a year, you get unlimited access, however, I believe you still won't be able to get in with an economy ticket, so I'm guessing comfort+ is the minimum you'd need even with that level of spend.

You can absolutely still enter the lounge on a Economy ticket. Only Basic Economy isn't allowed once the changes go into effect

Ahhhh, I just looked it up and now I know. I didn't realize there was a difference, I guess, since I've never bought a basic economy seat.

Whenever I travel for business, I have to buy a main cabin seat, and then I'll upgrade to Comfort+ using my points or $, depending on the cost. If the flight is less than 2 hours, I typically just go with the main cabin though.

I always buy as early as I can, so the upgrade is typically cheaper. I'm flying to Monterrey, MX in 2 weeks for work and the bump to Comfort+ was about $40. No brainer, imo.

Yeah I think they are aware of that. I was planning on downgrading the card, but Recieved a upgrade offer to the amex delta reserve with a fair bit of miles. Went ahead and took the offer for now. I'll hit gold with the spend boost after the upgrade and will give me a chance to decide what I'll do next year come renewal time.

The only credit card worth the fee is still Chase Sapphire Reserve.

I have been a Diamond since 2014. This year I will be close. Next year with the MQM to MQD conversion I can make it. So if I make it by year end I am basically guaranteed Diamond until 1/31/26. The changes suck.
I was hoping to get to 2MM to at least have gold and sky team elite for life but that may be a bit tough.

What made me loyal was differentiated service and timeliness. Service is gone. For a Diamond, the gate agents are so unpredictable and calling/texting is futile. All comes down to if I can spend about $2800 between now and year end (on top of my 17 pending segments). It will be tight.

Sounds like there may be some rollbacks to some changes.
