this sounds like more than a simple coil replacement. for comparison, a few yrs ago my high dollar Trane coil and Tx valve was around $1000 for just the parts.

Thinking the same. Why would ducts need to be retrofitted to change the coil?

No shite. I had my A/C unit recharged earlier in the summer, but the HVAC guy sniffed my evaporator coil and confirmed it's leaking around a few of the u bends. He said to replace the coil and recharge would be right at $1000.
