our company has a backup facility that can be activated pretty seamlessly, offsite location, for just about anything short of a direct nuke on the city

United has a backup facility as well. Not sure what the nature of this meltdown is.

Flying as an overall experience is miserable these days.

If it’s within 8 hours I’m almost exclusively going to drive.

Max I’ll go is 5 hours.

Flying isn’t great but it’s not bad enough yet for me to spend more than 5-6 hours in a car on a boring interstate.

we're taking our daughter and some friends to Destin for her birthday in a couple of weeks, everyone is flying but me, I'm driving 11.5 hours to avoid the airline experience

I just tried to bring up Amadeus (German company which powers a lot of airline related stuff), and the page has been loading for nearly 60 seconds now, that might be a clue. I know I've watched Amadeus outages torpedo one airline repeatedly. There's nothing like learning from your mistakes!

If I remember correctly, aren't you an airline pilot? Didn't you share pictures once in a thread?
